Personality

Echo is a quiet, guarded individual, more observant than he lets on. he spent most of his early life learning how to read people before deciding whether or not they're worth trusting. He notices the small things most would overlook. As a Kittom, Echo struggled to form attachments. People had the tendency to disappear from his life - whether through abandonment, life circumstance, or simply choosing someone else over him. Because of this, Echo put up emotional walls at a young age. He'd rather be seen as cold and uncaring than risk being vulnerable and misplacing his trust.

Despite -- or because of -- everything, Echo has a strong capacity for empathy. He notices when someone's uncomfortable, remembers small details about others, and is often ready to help without recognition. 

About

Echo grew up in Enmir, where much of his childhood was spent moving between people and places that never quite felt permanent. He became accustomed to abandonment, almost developing a resistance to attachment. He doesn't like goodbyes or promises. They're just future disappointments to him.

Echo started reconsidering his view on friendship after he met Ophelia. Traveling alongside her gradually introduced him to the possibility that companionship didn't need to end in abandonment. She encouraged him to rely on someone else and to experience a world through a heart that didn't constantly prepare for the moment it would be left behind. For a while, Echo genuinely believed he found a partner for life. But - as opportunity for Ophelia grew, so did the distance between them. Her rising success wasn't something he particularly resented - he in fact was very proud of her - but what hurt the most was that he felt less and less important to her. Every new opportunity seemed to take her father away, reinforcing his core beliefs that she once helped him overcome.

Once Echo reached adulthood, the hope he had almost completely disappeared. He never fully admitted how much it hurt. He begins actively choosing isolation because it's safer than the attachment. His greatest challenge will be accepting that something can be temporary without being worthless.
