"Strange Stormclouds"
#98 Draw or write about your elnin or kittom observing some odd cloudforms!
Elnin traveling across Eyre have been reporting strange sightings in the sky lately. Clouds: a mundane part of the landscape, meandering across the skies and occasionally bringing rain in some parts. Or that’s how they normally are, but lately reports have come in of various oddities. Clouds that reflect or refract light in unexpected ways and take on unusual colours, or form into strange shapes and textures are mesmerizing those looking up. Adding to the oddity, light storms have also been observed in some areas, albeit with more scattered distribution than previous years.
What has your nin observed when looking up? Have some oddly flat clouds been observed among Ealei’s normally tall and fluffy clouds? Maybe the icy conditions in Strynhalde have aligned just right and nacreous clouds have drawn attention as they refract light into a rainbow of colours? Have the Stormlands in Ahza been seeing extra instability and caused exceptionally odd and mesmerizing rolling textures in the sky? Some kittoms allegedly report that "stacks of cloud pancakes" appeared over the rounded mountains of Kyendi. It seems all over Eyre, regions are exhibiting unique cloud formations.
How has your elnin or kittom reacted? Are they recording their sightings in some way or simply taking in the sights? Do they find the sights beautiful and mesmerizing or worry they portend particularly nasty weather to come? Don’t forget to look up and maybe remember an umbrella too!
(Note: The light storms display as streaks of color with small motes of light left where they land. The streak's light and motes vary in color, but are generally bright and show up better when it's dark. A field of fireflies would be a good example of how the motes look, only on the ground or very close to it, and with more variation in color. They could be green, pink, purple, etc. but are generally hues closer to white. Light storms are not required to be depicted in this prompt but can optionally appear in addition to the odd clouds.)

This monthly regular prompt's "Quick Rules":
- Entry Window: The 1st of the month until the last day of the month at 11:59pm PST (Timezone Reference Here).
- Keep in mind month end dates will vary. We will be granting AP for this prompt based on the timestamp your prompt was submitted by, not when it was approved.
- To Enter: Use the "Submit" button for this prompt!
- Completion Reward:
- [1AP] max per submission per month
- AP must be granted to an elnin you own, so make sure you have an elnin in mind that you're earning this AP for specifically. AP is a character based currency and therefore must be granted to a character.
- [1AP] max per submission per month
- Qualifying for AP:
- Either:
- Draw a standalone background of the Eyre region you would like to earn AP for.
Or - Write 300 words (or more) about a region you would like to earn AP for. Describe in your own words either what aspects this region is known for with imagery or why your elnin would like to visit this region. Be sure to include iconic features of the region or many of the region's general features to make it clear what region they're in.
- Draw a standalone background of the Eyre region you would like to earn AP for.
- AP is a character based currency meaning you will need to own an elnin to claim currency for this prompt.
- Information on Regional Affinity and Eyre Regions can be found in the resource here: [Regional Affinity Guide]!
- If you're unsure what to write or draw about about consider:
- What kinds of activities can you do in the region?
- What characteristics of the landscape draw elnin to this region?
- What parts of the region might travelers need to look out for or find unpleasant?
- You do not need to include your elnin visually or writing wise for this prompt but make sure they are not a focal point. Your elnin should not take up more than 25% of the canvas in Regional Scenery submissions. You're welcome to write a description from the point of view of the elnin you’re earning the AP for or include them if you want, but you’re not required to. Just be sure if you include the elnin you're earning AP for that the focus is the regional imagery description and not dialogue. This just means if you include your elnin we won't mind if it's just a speck on a cliffside in a region like Kyendi but we would ask the elnin not be very large that it becomes the piece's focal point rather than the region.
- In order verify that your piece qualifies for an Affinity Point (AP), please add the following information to your submission's comment text:
- Regional Affinity: [ Eyre Region name (e.g. Ahza, Bellmoril, Ealei, Enmir, Faerindell, Kyendi, Palu'au Islands, Silveil, Strynhalde, Zevija ) ]
- Elnin: [ Link to masterlist entry or their ELN# from the masterlist ]
- Either:
- Maximum Entries: [1] per month
- Other:
- Props/elnin present will not award EC for this prompt if you decide to include them.
- Please only submit newly created art. Please do not submit commissioned works or previously-created art or art done on reused bases.
- As always, non-owners are more than welcome to enter!
- Shading is no longer being required for prompts but flat colors are still required. Shading is now optional.
- Collab pieces are not allowed for prompt submissions.
- All submissions must be your own work. Works produced through the use of artificial intelligence are not accepted in this group.
- FAQs -
A: No! In fact Regional Scenery pieces we would like to focus on the scenery or settings where elnin are not a focal point. Market scenery, etc. populated with elnin are welcome but no elnin should be a focal point or take up more than 25% of the entire scene.

- Draw a fullbody piece of giftart of an elnin not owned by you.
- Make sure if you do not own an elnin or you're doing art of someone else's elnin you have permission to draw or write for that character! You can find more information about this on our Gift Art Resources page!
- An important note for writers: Some owners only allow drawn gift art since writing for characters with little personality info shown on their profile can be difficult. If an owner does not provide a method of contact they are alright being contacted at, or state outright they are alright receiving written gift art, we highly recommend finding a character or owner that does specify they are ok with written gift art. Do not approach users privately via offsite platforms/DMs unless they have been explicit on their profiles they are ok with as much! We don't want anyone feeling uncomfortable or like their personal spaces are being disregarded. If you're feeling stumped but only do writing you can also stop by our discord server (here) and inquire in the #character_connections channel to see if anyone would be alright with a written gift story for a character.
- Under the "Characters" section, for your gift art submission please add the elnin(s)/kittom(s) depicted in the drawn or written gift art. If you are unable to do so please write that character's "Character Code" (ex. ELN001) in the comments section for your submission so they are identifiable, do not just give us their name, we will soft reject the submission and request that you add the "Character Code" in the comments for your submission.

- FAQs -
A: No! Not this prompt specifically.
A: Yes! You should not own the elnin/kittom you are doing gift art of.
A: Yes, just be sure the elnin you don't own that you are doing gift art for is still the primary subject of a submission/is still 75-80% visible.
A: Yes, but make sure you check if the user is ok with a written story or gift art. A user may have information on their elnin's profile or their own profile relative to what types of gift art they are comfortable with receiving for their elnin. If they do not specify but have marked their elnin as allowing gift art you'll want to reach out to them first, just make sure they are ok being contacted! If they indicate they do not wish to be contacted or do not provide a preferred means of contact via dA or discord you may want to choose a different elnin to do gift art for. Alternatively you can check in the group's discord and if anyone has characters they would be comfortable accepting a gift story for! Some users may not allow written gifts if they are concerned about their elnin's personality being inaccurately portrayed.

A: No! In fact, we would like Regional Flora pieces to focus on the flora itself and general scenery or settings where elnin are not a focal point. Tropical flowers found at the base of waterfalls in Kyendi alongside ruins is just one example of a regional flora focused prompt. Background elnin are welcome but no elnin should be a focal point or take up more than 25% of the entire scene. The new plant you are focusing on should be almost entirely visible, if not entirely visible.

- Make sure if you do not own an elnin or you're doing art of someone else's elnin you have permission to draw or write for that character! You can find more information about this on our Gift Art Resources page!
- Given this is a gijinka/bipedal form-based prompt, make sure if you're gifting a gijinka/bipedal form or outfit that it's consistent with any existing gijinka form preferences the owner has. (ie. If they use their elnin's markings within the gijinka's skin tone or already have a certain skin tone specified for the character be sure to respect their existing gijinka character design/interpretation.)
- We want to be as respectful and consistent as we can. If you are not able to clarify skin tone color(s) and marking preferences for gijinka forms with the owner of an elnin, then we ask you just draw the character bipedal where it is just the elnin's quadrupedal form upright on two legs in an outfit.
- You still must have permission to draw someone else's elnin regardless of if they get back to you on skin tone and marking preferences.

Small rodent-like creatures foraging on crops in Faerindell is just one example of a regional fauna focused prompt. Background elnin are welcome but no elnin should be a focal point or take up more than 25% of the entire scene. The new fauna you are focusing on should be almost entirely visible, if not entirely visible.
A: Mostly when we say the creature needs to be non-magical, we're thinking of creatures that can use magic or whose bodies would have strong magical properties like dragons, unicorns, phoenixes, etc. just to name a few. If you aren't sure if an idea you have seems magical, you can always submit a ticket on site to ask if an idea might not pass before fleshing it out more! For sure though, there should be no mythical beings like sea dragons, and so on. A fantasy spin is ok like giving a rabbit horns or turtle scaled flukes that resemble wings but since Ealei already has a known sea dragon-like being living near it and we're going into this space with the assumption it's probably the biggest thing around in terms of aquatic life and we'd like to keep a respectful distance while still allowing some creativity.
Keep in mind too you can always creatively approach some properties that seem magic-adjacent without having them be magic. Like bioluminescence can cause glowing to occur on earth, creatures having a bit of glow in Eyre is ok! You could also explore giving some creatures a little bit of lift or having them float if they’re very light and sensitive to wind currents.

"Spirits Stirring"
Draw or write about your elnin helping an elder spirit with the resurfacing of an old tradition! Read on to find out what specific tradition must be depicted!
---
Every so often elder spirits stir within Eyre. At times, their surfacing or actions cause some unusual effects on the lands. Other times, their very presence indicates changes are occurring in Eyre itself. What changes are occurring tend to vary but it's not uncommon for old traditions to be brought back or new ones to form in response to the movements of these impressive spirits. Eyre has become quite boisterous in the months leading up to summer this year.
-
This year Azha's elder spirit, Weaver, is stirring within the desert region's vast and shifting landscape. In response, Azha's eldertree is in bloom with large white iridescent flowers allowing Eyre's residents to partake in a unique tradition spurred by the spirit's activity.
Near Azha's capital, Bejali, rests a massive towering banyan-like tree that anchors the region with roots that coil around the skeletal remains of an ancient colossal dragon. This particular elder tree is known for seldom blooming, perhaps indicating something fickle about what conditions may need to be met in tandem with the region's elder spirit stirring. With the rare blooms abundant for the first time in a while, locals can finally use the flowers from the elder tree to craft a very special kind of paint. This paint is often referred to as "snaring paint" because it allows elnin to harvest an elusive fruit called "Weaver's Bite" from a very common Azha plant. Locals often call the fruiting version of this plant by its proper name, wanderweave, as the non-fruiting plant is now more commonly called wanderweed due to its lack of fruit.
Local azhanese folk say the common plant has some quirky qualities to it, specifying that when the plant fruits it will cast a mirage of itself elsewhere with its fruit present all while the original wanderweed plant appears fruitless. Elnin meandering through Azha are likely familiar with what wanderweed looks like due to how common it is, but if they want to see a plant bearing fruit they will find it quite difficult. The delicious fruity morsels are impossible to see or harvest without applying some snaring paint in swirls on their face and arms. The snaring paint on their face keeps their gaze sharp while seeking out the mirages.
While Azha tends to have the most mirage sightings, probably the most unusual aspect of the mirages is that they are not necessarily bound to the region of Azha. The source plants, wanderweed, all reside within the Azha region's bounds but their mirages, the wanderweave plants, can be cast far and wide across Eyre when the elder tree is in bloom. No one is entirely sure why the plants scatter their fruiting visages so far, but some elnin suspect it may be in response to the elder spirit in Azha's fondness for the fruits.
Snaring paint is crafted near the flowering elder tree in Azha but with the mirages scattered far and wide the paint itself is transported all across Eyre, so the weaver's bite fruits can be freshly harvested and delivered. Once elnin have collected a fruit, the tasty offering can be delivered to any major shrine found in a region. As a respectful gesture towards Azha's elder spirit, most major shrines will leave out glass jars and bowls filled with sand brought from the desert region to invite the spirit beyond Azha's boundaries so it can enjoy the offerings. While this tradition comes from Azha, it is a tradition that can be celebrated across Eyre, much like other known traditions related to elder spirits.
(Depict your elnin or kittom helping with this old tradition or the steps leading up to it! Keep in mind to acquire and handle a fruit an elnin's arms are covered in snaring paint. To see the fruiting plant elnin must have it applied to their face near their eyes as well. Elnin can be depicted taking on any part of the gathering process. For those elnin or kittoms ambling closer to home, perhaps they are helping apply snaring paint to adventuring elnin so they can go out to retrieve fruit or applying snaring paint to themselves to assist in handling fruits in town.
Snaring paint can be any color after being processed from the white iridescent blooms, and usually applied as swirls on the arms and face of an elnin. Some elnin stylize the paint a bit more but any more coverage than on the arms and face is optional. By ahzanese tradition, more paint generally means an elnin is more serious about fruit gathering. Elnin must still be identifiable even with the paint applied. While the elder tree blooms the flowers are abundant so using a little more paint isn't seen as a wasteful practice while the tree blooms. The paint itself is not shelf stable without undergoing an extremely expensive enchantment process so it is not often seen out of the blooming season.
Art by ManaberriThe fruits found on the wanderweave plant are rainbow and striped in color while the leaves of the plant are green and vivid. Weaver's bite fruits themselves are known for being sweet and spicy.)
Art by ManaberriIn past years, Ealei's elder spirit stirred within the Manawell that circles around the base of Ealei's eldertree, Yggdrasil. In response, Ealei's eldertree would bloom even more grandly with its bright golden blooms, and petals could be found adrift on the water's surface below.
It is said that the Ancient Spirit that lives within the Manawell can be seen from time to time in the summer months. When it is awake, it comes close to the surface. To outsiders, it can be an alarming sight, as this Spirit takes the form of a massive white serpent. The locals know that it harms no living creature, and can be observed swimming in playful arcs beneath any boats brave enough to venture out over the deep waters of its domain. In addition, while the Ancient Spirit is visible, fishing in the Manawell can be a lucrative venture. The Ancient seems to scare up a lot of fish with its antics and would appear to enjoy helping the locals feed themselves, but be warned that any fishernin that takes more than they should may find their boat overturned by a rolling serpent's coil as punishment for their greed.
Something is amiss in the sea waters though as the fish appear to be sparser there. As a result, it seems as though the elder spirit in Ealei has been herding fish out of the depths of the well into the sea. They could use some help though!
Eyre's outer endless oceans are most often referred to as "the boundless", although the term can also be used to refer to the inner waters as part of the whole too. In the olden days there was a tradition to help fill the boundless sea with life, and this year it appears to be coming back! Is there something in the deeper boundless waters that's affecting sea life? Is the boundless expanding? Residents aren't quite sure. There's only one problem...not all fish can acclimate to the boundless with ease. Stories inscribed in history speak of glowing fish appearing in small pools and shallow rivers across Eyre. Some older locals say those fish must have received some kind of blessing but how has remained an unrecorded mystery. Until this year there was no record of how these little fish were being blessed with their luminous bodies, but elnin think they may have partially figured it out.
The light showers across Eyre were first documented a few years back and later on observed to have odd effects on elnin's shadows. In a recent, particularly strong, light storm some Eyre residents have witnessed fish being struck by the light showers too and surprisingly these fish are now aglow. Quick! There's no time to waste! Grab a bowl, or a jar, or a vase and scoop up these glowing fish. This has to be a sign right? Though it's unclear exactly which spirit may be blessing the fish, the one in Ealei seems to be stirring the waters up a bit in excitement.
Elnin must help escort these tiny luminous fish to the boundless. Of course, elnin aren't particularly strong swimmers, at least not like their undine relatives, and they certainly aren't expected to ferry a bunch of loose fish all the way to the deep oceans. Instead, elnin can simply deliver one of the blessed critters into any body of open seawater. This can be done by just releasing the fish from the vessel they were carried in (be it bowl, vase, etc), or an elnin can use a more traditional festival method if they'd like to add a bit of ceremony to the event. A few of the traditional methods of releasing these glowing fish back into the water include crafting paper boats or lanterns that the fish seem to float around or within as they're carried out into deeper waters. Another traditional vessel has resurfaced too, where fish are placed into special bubbles designed to float on the water and sent drifting into the sea. Paper and bubble traditional release methods tend to sink or melt into the water, though occasionally the bubble vessels can pop prematurely.
(Depict your elnin or kittom helping with this old tradition or the steps leading up to it! Keep in mind there should always be a glowing fish somewhere in the setting. There won't be any deep water diving but elnin might be depicted catching a glowing fish from the shallows of a small lake, pool, or stream inland. Alternatively, elnin might be found carrying all sorts of small vessels, like bowls or vases among other things, and transporting the glowing fish through Eyre's regions. For elnin or kittoms ambling closer to town, perhaps they're busy crafting paper boats or lanterns with the glowing fish within eyeshot to get the boat's proportions right? There may even be some elnin who have reached the beaches or shorelines touching Eyre's seas and are releasing their glowing fish from vessels or watching the small glowing fish friends drift off on tiny boats, lanterns, or in bubbles to their final destination.
Feel free to show how your elnin is reacting to this widespread effort! Transporting these glowing fish across the lands might be an exhausting effort for some, while others may feel like it's a walk in the park. Are they perhaps a bit emotional seeing these little fish off? Bittersweet feelings might bubble up or perhaps feelings of excitement and joy at a job well done. One thing is for sure though, Ealei's spirit will surely be happy to see more fish filling the boundless.)

A: Yes! For this prompt they are!
A: Yes! If you were looking to get an older spirits stirring stamp for a specific elnin, you can opt to do a historical prompt like the one for Ealei to get that older stamp. Keep in mind you can still only submit 1 submission for this prompt a year, so if you opt to do the historical version of this prompt you cannot do the current one.
A: In future years this might change, but at least for this year, since Ealei has been featured two years in a row and we're doubled up on seasonal prompts for 2026, we've decided to keep the submission cap at 1 submission total. Eventually there will be more options under this prompt that we'll likely relax the submission limit, just not this year.
