A little low lying plant growing on the sandy beaches that gain cracks as it ages, these often are shaped like a face and young plantlings grow out of them. Those plantlings then fall off to be carried off by the high tides to a new area.  Always found 'facing' the ocean.  Some locals like to put hats on them or sunglasses and this occasionally makes the plant produce more offspring. 
Specimens taken from Palu'au and transplanted into sand elsewhere either rot and wither away or their smiling faces turn grim and weepy until that plant too dies. 

Definitly not just a coconut.
