The Greater Phoenix Wurm is, in fact, tiny enough to fit cozily in an elnin's paw!
For those who can keep their habitat warm and spacious enough, these curious caterpillars
are actually quite friendly when kept as pets and helpful as garden pest control.
They prefer snacking on insects smaller than them during the evening,
or nibbling at dead tree roots whenever discovered as a treat.
Their underbelly colouration can vary from gold to neon reds,
although the topside is always a dark or dusty charcoal colouring.
When mature, they spin themselves into a cocoon that resembles cooling magma,
complete with patterns that resemble glowing embers to ward off predators.
After metamorphosis, the Greater Phoenix Moth will emerge in a brilliant display of fiery wings,
though domestic caterpillars haven't yet been documented undergoing this change.
