Soot grass often grows at the foot of Zevija's eldertree, taking on the same ashy hue as its trunk. 
They draw their nutrients from the mana of the eldertree as well as the smog that hangs in the air.

Young elnin often like to collect this grass to use in pranks, as they're quite easy to grind up into a fine soot powder by just crumbling it in one's paws, and sticks to just about anything, often to the dismay of their guardians. One will know if an elnin in question has been handling soot grass by seeing the silvery ash powder all over one's paws, face, clothes, and just about anything they come into contact with. Despite this, it's quite easy to rinse off, though the little soot clouds left behind from all the handling is another matter in itself.
