It had been a rather uneventful day. Mitternacht found herself lounging on a bench right outside the city, casually sipping on a drink through a straw with her mind on nothing particular. Right as her cup began to run dry and she was close to needing to think of what to do next, two kittoms made their way from the path they were on and stepped over to the elnin. Mitternacht didn’t realize the two kittoms were looking at her until she looked down and saw the two children staring up at her, wide eyed. She moved the straw away from her mouth but before she could ask what was up one of the kittoms piped up.

“Hello! You have really, really pretty eyes!”

“Oh, why thank you!”

The second kittom chimed up, taking a step forward. “Were you born with those eyes? I’ve never seen anything like it before! They’re so bright and blue!” The first kitten gave the second kittom a disappointed look, but all Mitternacht did was raise her paw to her mouth to cover a small laugh.“You wish to know about my eyes? I’ll tell you what happened! I wasn’t born with these eyes. In fact, my eyes were very much the same as yours once upon a time ago. Something magical happened to me, though.”

Mitternacht fought the urge to grin as the kittoms crept closer, eager to hear more. She continued on to say “I was on a boat headed to Palu’au Islands. The sky was clear and the ocean was crystal blue. I was on the deck and decided to look over the railing into the waters. When I thought I would see some fish, I saw a giant blue beast swimming next to the ship! It turned it’s giant blue eyes towards me, and the two of us stared at each other for a long time. When the beast decided it was time to go and disappeared into the sea, my eyes had turned blue! So be careful children - if you see something strange in water, don’t stare for too long!”

The two kittoms stared at her in awe before thanking her for the story and trotting off, chittering between each other about what they just heard. Mitternacht finally allowed herself to smile to herself. Was the story true or a lie? Who knew! She certainly wasn’t going to say.
