Silveil is a unique region, in that it’s always shrouded in a veil of darkness. To those who aren’t used to not seeing the sun at noon, the region can be a little jarring. It takes time, some longer than others, for an visitor of a newcomer elnin’s eyes to grow used to the constant darkness. While the bustling cities illuminate the roads and buildings with lights, the farther an elnin got from Silveil the darker the world around them would become.

However, that’s not to say that Silveil is always pitch black. Even in areas away from the city where only several elnin live, if any at all, light can still be found. Just as elnin have to adjust to living in such a dark region, the wildlife have adjusted as well. In various areas, the fauna and flora have adapted to the darkness by emitting a soft luminescent glow. For example, flowers growing on certain trees and growing from the ground are not the usual kind of flowers that grow in Faerindell or Bellmoril. Instead, here their petals give off a faint glow. As well, lining the roads to light the way in the more rural areas of Silveil are large mushrooms. While their texture is still that of a regular mushroom that can be found anywhere, in Silveil they emit a bright glow. When they grow on the sides of roads and walking paths, they give enough light for a traveler to stay on the path and lead the way back to civilization. The colors that the flora give off range from greens, blues, and purples.

For Dawn, Silveil has always been home, so glowing flora is nothing new to her. However, when she leaves Silveil and comes back she’s always happy to be greeted by the familiar glow of the wildlife. As well, Dawn keeps a few glowing flowers in her bedroom to use as a nightlight. While they look like normal flowers under normal light, when she turns off the light they glow and light the way so she can reach the bed and curl up.
