Marco wasn’t exactly sure what his brother did for his job. When he was younger he assumed Mason went to all four corners of Eyre, exploring and doing dangerous missions while looking for treasure! The older he got, the more he replaced his outlandish fantasies with more probably scenarios. He knew that his brother traveled to the big city of Bellmoril often, so perhaps he helped those in need in the city with their problems. Whatever Mason did, Marco was happy when his brother returned home and stayed for a few days at a time.

The day that Marco would learn more about Mason’s job finally came. After waking up and sharing breakfast with his brother, he began to prepare to see his brother off for his trek to Il'durahn. However, he was surprised when Mason placed a paw on his head and asked if he had any plans for the next few days.
“I was just going to tidy up around here and read some books. Why do you ask?”
“Want to come with me?”
“... Really? You sure?”
“Yeah, lil’ buddy. I have some things to do that could use an extra set of paws.”

Marco beamed up at his brother and agreed to go with him. He quickly packed his bag with a few books and some snacks to enjoy during their venture down to the city. Once he was ready he bounced around Mason, who was still getting all of his things together, but before long the two were on their way away from home.

Bellmoril looked the same as ever. Marco and Mason’s home sat up in one of the many mountains, so the two had to be careful and take their time down the dirt back leading down. On the way, they were surrounded by many trees. The leaves in the trees were plentiful and managed to block out the sky above, casting soft shadows on the ground along with the elnin and kittom. Various shades of red, yellow, and oranges surrounded them despite the shadows. Even the yellow grass that surrounded the dirt path they walked on only looked a little darker under the shade of the trees, with some patches even looking more gold than yellow. Everything seemed to blur together, and to a newcomer it might be confusing to walk through a Bellmoril forest, but with Marco living here all his life it was as easy as walking itself.

The trees eventually parted and the two headed into Il'durahn. The greys of stone stood out against the surrounding trees and foliage. If it wasn’t for the grey tone that a majority of the buildings were made of, the wood that made up the smaller parts of the city would merely blend into the surrounding area. Most of the buildings were the size of his own house, but there were some buildings that Marco had to crane his neck to see the top of. He had no idea why you would need a building that tall, but he imagined that whatever was in there had to be special, or the elnin who lived there were powerful!

Marco was surprised when Mason led the both of them to one of the large tall buildings. There were several elnin in the main lobby of the building talking amongst themselves or writing things down on parchment. On either side there were stairs leading up to the next floor that was hidden from view. Mason walked over to one of the elnin writing something down and spoke up to get his attention. As the two adults began to talk Marco stuck by Mason’s side and continued to look around, noticing new details every second. He noticed that there were windows looking out into the city square, and some of the windows were decorated with red flowers that Marco had seen during their walk down to the city. An elnin walked by carrying a large stack of books, paying no one any mind as she continued walking and headed up one of the stairs.

Mason and the other elnin wrapped up their conversation, and the other elnin handed over several things to Mason. The older brother looked down at the kittom and smiled.
“Thanks for waiting, buddy. Ready to help me carry something?”
“Yeah!!!”
Mason handed over a small cage. Marco couldn’t help but look inside the cage to see a yellow lizard with black spots and green eyes staring back at him. Whenever Marco blinked, the lizard would blink back at him. He wanted to play around with the lizard more but Mason ushered him out of the building. The two of them had to make their way across the city, and these items were magical items that they were doing a delivery on. They were originally owned by the elnin that Mason was talking to, but the elnin was giving these items to her assistant who was researching in a building on the other side of the city.

Marco wondered what could be so magical about a lizard. More questions began to pile up as he held onto the cage and felt the bars get warm every now and then, or he’d swear he heard the small lizard rumble and growl. Whenever he looked at the lizard though it seemed calm and indifferent sitting in the middle of the cage. Marco looked over at what Mason was carrying and saw that his brother was carrying a large bundle of different kinds of plants. Maybe they were ingredients for something? Rare plants that weren’t native to Bellmoril? Some of the plants were blue and purple, so that would have made sense.

When they reached the center of town an elnin approached them. A pink, blue, and white elnin smiled brightly at the both of them and waved. It was Opal, a close friend of Mason’s. Mason immediately beamed and seemed much more chipper than he was before. Opal joined them on their journey to the other side of the city, chatting with Mason. She seemed to know what the plants were that Mason was carrying, so Marco decided to ask more about them. Opal explained to the kittom that they were various herbs and spices that had magical properties, but could make someone very sick if consumed or used incorrectly. Marco was suddenly glad he was carrying the mysterious lizard rather than the plants.

The three of them arrived at their destination. Opal waited outside as Marco and Mason headed inside. An older elnin was sitting in a comfortable looking chair when they walked in, but got up when he saw the elnin and kittom. When he saw what the two were carrying he smiled and thanked the two for making their delivery. Marco couldn’t help but notice all the strange objects sitting on the nearby table, and all the books sitting in stacks in various placed around the room. There were even posters of what looked like star constellations on the walls, and wondered if this elnin had documented the entire sky onto these posters. The elnin noticed Marco looking at the posters and asked if the kittom was interested in the stars. Marco paused before shyly nodding. The older elnin said that if he ever wanted to learn more, he was free to come by any time. Marco smiled softly and thanked the elnin.

With their deliveries made, it was time to head home. Opal joined them on their adventure back since she wanted to chat more with Mason and hang out with him. While the two adults chatted Marco’s mind wandered. He thought about the older elnin and the strange things in his house. He also thought about the lizard they delivered. Perhaps when they got back home, Marco would read up on stars and other things so he could return to learn more!
