An excerpt from an old field guide...

"The Mist Jelly is a strange creature, not unlike the jellyfish sometimes seen in the deeper waters surrounding Ealei. They share a similar appearance, looking something like a transparent barely-there bonnet with tendrils of whispy smoke drifting from beneath like tentacles. However, unlike its distant aquatic cousins, the Mist Jelly floats effortlessly through the thick, rolling fog of Kyendi's rounded mountaintops instead of the watery depths of the ocean. Sometimes, vast numbers of them gather together in what the local Kyunru refer to as a "bloom," sometimes even blotting out the sun like a great cloud passing overhead. Hundreds of undulating jellies will bob together through the air, gently bumping into each other and drifting away in all directions, until one-by-one they vanish into the misty gray skies above.

No one is quite sure where these great clouds of jellies disappear to, but it is known that shortly after a bloom occurs, there's always a gentle rainfall. This pure rain nourishes the jungles of Kyendi's foothills, helping the region stay lush and green. Are the Mist Jellies somehow connected to the appearance of rain in the region, or are they simply predicting the storms via some base instinct and reacting accordingly? We might never know for sure.

Mist Jellies are typically never seen in Kyendi's lower altitude areas, with one major exception: Dusk ruins. Mysteriously, these animals can be found with some regularity around Kyendi's ruins. The more ancient, crumbling, and overgrown the structures are, the more Mist Jellies seem to linger around the area. Their behavior in these areas is strange as well, reverently brushing their mistlike tendrils over the faces of statues that have long since worn away. Observation of these behaviors have proven to be difficult- Mist Jellies are easily startled when caught outside of their typical mountaintop habitat, and they will quickly bob and bounce away into the sky as soon as they notice they aren't alone."
