Red-tail loons are migratory birds with an unique trilling cry, originating in Kyendi and migrating to southern regions during miasma seasons. During warmer months, they return to Kyendi to nest and find a mate to start a new family with. Their red tail feathers are presumed to be nuptial plumage, as their tails are typically black and do not develop until miasma season passes. Though, it seems their tail feathers also shares a defensive function where if they are caught by a predator, they can shed and scatter the feathers in an attempt to confuse or distract them so they can escape.
