Fauna: Maple Viper - These reptiles are not so cleverly named for the leaves in which they hide in. Their colorful and spikey appearance is similar to the fallen Maple leaves from the trees. They are an ambush predator that relies on this camouflage to seemingly vanish, with the exception of their tail tip. Their tail tip is not nearly as saturated in color, giving it a more neutral pink similar to a worm. The viper will wriggle its tail tip to try and lure in their main prey, small birds. Once a bird is lured in, this viper will strike, biting the bird and injecting it with a paralyzing poison. Once the bird is subdued, this snake is able to swallow the prey whole. It usually takes about 2 weeks for the bird to be fully digested, but the Maple Viper will usually spend that time just hiding beneath the Maple leaves. On occasion the Viper may lose the tip of its tail due to the nature of using it as bait, but the Viper is resilient and can usually grow it back within a week. Whenever you visit Bellmoril, just be careful when stepping through the Maple leaf litter on the ground, you may disturb one of these vipers.
