In the heart of Silveil’s eternal night, where the forests hum with ghostly light and the shadows are never truly empty, a silent predator drifts unseen through the gloom. The Nyxwing, as it is called, is a creature more whispered about in tales than truly seen, its existence teetering between myth and reality for those who dwell in Silveil's depths.

Its wings, thin and tattered, flutter in the air while seeming to defy gravity. The Nyxwing’s form is wrapped in a nebulous like mist, its body nothing more than a shifting blur of darkness. Only its wings give it away, faint patterns of bioluminescence scattered across them like constellations in the sky. To an untrained observer, it might seem like nothing more than a trick of the light, a handful of lost stars drifting between the trees, until it stirs, drawing attention to its presence.

The Nyxwing is a patient and silent hunter. It does not chase, nor does it spring into action. Instead, it hovers in the darkness, its presence as soft and unnoticed as a held breath. It feeds on creatures drawn to light, coaxing them closer with the slow, hypnotic flicker of its glowing wings. Fireflies, moths, and even small luminescent fish that break the surface of Silveil’s Starlake find themselves drawn to the spectral glow. And when they draw near, the Nyxwing unfurls from the shadows, wrapping its delicate, wispy tendrils around its unsuspecting prey before it vanishes again, a whisper lost to the night.

Though it moves like a ghost, the Nyxwing is not universally feared. Some believe that to see one is a sign of imminent change, whether for good or ill. Gamblers in Silveil City speak of a glimpse of its glowing wings before entering a casino as a sign of an improbable streak of luck, or a harbinger of devastating loss. Wanderers lost in the forest claim that the Nyxwing has led them safely from peril, its faint glow offering a guiding light through the thickest darkness.

Yet, not all who follow the lights find their way back. Some disappear without a trace, swallowed up by the night as though taken by it. Did the Nyxwing lead them astray? Or was it something darker that awaited in the hidden corners of the forest, something far less merciful? No one knows for sure.

In Silveil, where the stars flicker in the unbroken night, not all lights in the dark are meant to be followed.
