The afternoon was warm. Everyone settling down into the day's routine, all except for two little kittoms. Harpuia and Fefnir were lounging on the couch. Harpuia sat pouting as he wanted X to read with him in his lap. Fefnir whined as there was nothing to do, and Axl was not home. To prevent bickering between the two brothers, their father X came into the room with various supplies and a bag.
Harpuia sat up, curious as to what his father was doing while Fefnir had simply observed from his position. He was sure his brother was the one who would get chosen for whatever task their father had in mind. The fiery kittom was quite surprised when X called both of them over, explaining the purpose of these supplies.
"There's a travelers station not far from here. Why don't you fill the bag with supplies?" Fefnir and Harpuia glanced at each other for a moment before looking down at the bag and various items strewn around it.
"What sorta things?" Fefnir inquired, not exactly sure he was getting the picture.
"Well... what do you think should go into a care package, Fefnir?"
The kittom sat there for a moment, racking his brain for ideas. Since it seemed he was at a loss, Harpuia was about to step in, but X gently put his hand up to stop him, letting Fefnir finish his ideas. "Healing supplies? Like ointments, potions, herbs... bandages!" X chuckled, maneuvering some of the bottles around to assort them. "What else?" their father asked. "This is a traveler's package. What would you take on your journey?"
"A map!" Fefnir exclaimed, startling Harpuia in the process. X nodded, then glanced at his other son to see if he wanted anything to add.
"I would take food, ones that are easily preservable, and wouldn't perish throughout my journey."
"A good idea, Harpuia!" praised X. He stood then and gestured toward the green kittom to follow. "Why don't you help me with the food. Fefnir can take care of the rest, I'm sure."
Fefnir grinned and gave a chortle in agreement as X and Harpuia proceeded to the kitchen to gather what they could. In the meantime, the fiery kittom pulled everything toward him, the clink of glass echoing through the room. He had to quickly transfer some ointments to smaller jars as they smelled quite awful. The boy's face twisted in disgust, but he did his best organizing the various healing items before placing them neatly in the black bag; two small jars of ointments, a bottle of healing potion, and finely wrapped bandages enough for a small wound.
Fefnir glanced at the other supplies X had given him, but they weren't anything a traveler would use perse. Instead, there were several ideas he had in mind that he'd need to sift through some things in the closet. So, he got up and climbed the hall stairs to the closet door, shoving it open as it groaned in protest. Dark eyes scanned the shelves, and it wasn't long before he grabbed at a box full of string and various sewing items. There were plenty of extra, something a traveler could use if they snagged their clothes or needed to repair a sandal. He also grabbed a small towel in his haste. Once he had everything he needed, Fefnir closed the closet doors and hopped down the stairs back to the bag.
He would wind the loose string around his fingers and tied it so it wouldn't unravel all through the bag, possibly making a mess. Next, he would stick a sewing needle into the cork of the threaded spindle. After placing those items into the bag, he'd fold the hand towel nicely, to then place it within.
Fefnir wondered if there was anything else he should place into the bag. The world of Eyre was vast; many creatures inhabited these lands. Humans, Elnin, Kyulin — many traveled across each zone. Faerindell was plentiful and beautiful. A hot spot for those wanting to see the many florae in Eyre. Maybe a souvenir would suit the many things stacked in the bag? A small treasure that would make the visit that much more special.
Dipping into his pockets, Fefnir fished out the coin he had found on his adventure the other day. The odd symbol on the front of it still puzzled him, though he thought maybe someone else might know what they mean. He traced the emblem with his finger but decided against putting the strange object in there. He had doubts anyone that inherited it would know either.
So, Fefnir shoved the coin back into his pocket and got up to search around for something else that could go into the package. It wasn't long into his rummaging that he found a comb, an item seldom useful to Elnin. He wondered if X used one on Zero's long hair, but it wasn't practical. With the comb in hand, Fefnir ran back to the bag and placed it neatly within.
By the time he finished organizing the inside of the bag, X and Harpuia emerged from the kitchen. They had a couple of wrapped whey bread, a jar of jam, a glass of water, and some packets of coffee and tea with instructions. "I put some extra stuff in!" Fefnir explained as X knelt to insert all of the food. "Oh! I almost forgot..." The boy stood and ran into the foyer, grabbing a map X had set out.
"Ah yes, good idea, Fefnir. Here..." X held his hand out, and the boy gave him the map to which his father placed the paper into the bag snuggly between the rest of the supplies. "That should do it, good job Fef. Harpy." The boys looked at each other contently before watching their father stand with the bag in hand. "Harpy, why don't you come with me to drop this off? You've done well, Fefnir. Axl should be home any minute. I'm sure you'd like to wait for him."
"Yeah! Thanks, dad!" Fefnir hugged his father before running over to plop on the couch again. A job well done! Now all he had to do was wait for his big brother to return home.
