It had been a few days since Micca suddenly stumbled upon a peculiar looking egg on the doorstep of her current home in Zevija. The egg was an unexpected discovery in the otherwise somewhat uninviting landscape. After all, Zevija was the type of place where acid rain could suddenly appear and tunnels in the carved out rocks could collapse if an elnin was not careful about where they were treading. Micca's abode was within an underground city though so at least the rain could not reach the egg here. The little kittom's concern was other things, like what other Eyre inhabitants might consider making a meal of the egg.
Her elnin peers had commented some eggs that appeared elsewhere were in need of protection. Micca couldn't help but pause, wondering if this was the same as those other eggs. The small soft pink and brown kittom had taken the egg inside but for the most part just bundled up some blankets around it and been fretting on and off about what to do the past few days. She pressed her little ear to the egg, listening if something might hatch from it but it was relatively unresponsive. "Hmmm..." She hummed aloud, but her thoughts were deep and her voice was quite soft.
"What should I do? I can't stay here all day looking after you. Miasma season was sparser but now that it's seeming to press against the wards around the city I need to get a few things from the market before others do." She mumbled to herself. She was staying with an older elnin that looked after her but they were out working right now. They had left some elecite coins for her to get some food with but she didn't want to leave the egg alone. After a bit of staring and stretching her little toe beans a bit, an idea struck her. She skipped over to a closet in her room and carefully dragged out a knit bag. The rows of yarn that formed the bag were a bit messy, but Micca didn't mind. Her pomu had to help and both of them were still learning things about knitting. It was one of the first small projects she had done, so the bag itself was a tad small but it would work well for this purpose.
She touched the velvety soft leaves that wrapped around the base of the egg and admired the spirals that curled over some parts of the smooth almost stone-like shell of the egg. After a moment of taking in the small treasure, she tucked it into her bag and pulled the bag over her shoulders and back until she got it to sit right so she wouldn't bump into it while walking. Grabbing a few elecite coins Micca headed out into the city with the egg. Her pomu, Filmina, sat on her back helping to make sure the bag didn't twist or pull any odd directions as Micca walked.
It took a while of wandering through cavernous paths to get to the market in the city. The pathways weren't particularly dangerous but a lot of the inhabitants in this city had to work around the stone tunnels and make their routes work with them rather than trying to carve too many new ones. Carving out pathways through stone was quite the task after all. "Filly, make sure the egg doesn't scrape against anything." Micca would comment so often to her pomu when she found narrower paths.
At the market Micca picked up a few vegetables, fruits, and some snacks that had a small nutty seed-like quality to them. Maybe the little seeds could have sowed something if the region were more hospitable but here they were precious imported goods used mostly for food. It cost Micca most of her allowance of coins to get what they needed and thankfully the storekeeper gave her another bag because the one the egg was in would have gotten far too full. As the kittom was wandering back down the path towards home, she decided it might not be a bad day to take a small detour. The city had wards up so it would be safe but there were a little nook of a place she liked to eat sometimes. Experiences and new sights would be good for an egg, right? If it was a creature inside the egg that was as sensitive to mana as elnin were then she knew just the spot to go.
Micca worked her way through a side tunnel, watching as gemstones surfaced in areas the walls had been carved away. Then she found a spot where crystals had formed and likely could be mined. She wasn't all that well versed on how mana wells worked but the warm air made this nook pleasant and even if this spot were not a mana well itself it may have been close to one. Here Micca sat down to relax a bit. She talked to the egg a while, describing all the little gemstones and crystals littered about. There were occasional pauses as Micca took a bite of fruit and would offer the food to her pomu to share a bite too.
The activity went on for a while before Micca finished the last bite of fruit and popped a few edible seeds into her mouth. With that final action she gathered her belongings and the egg and headed home to settle in. Removing the egg from the bag she placed it on a section of a larger floor pillow before settling down on the other side herself. It was such a long day that by the time her elnin guardian returned to check on her Micca was sound asleep, nestled up against the egg that carried a comforting smell with her little pomu Filmina settled on top of her. It's hard work taking care of an egg, Micca had learned that much in recent days.
