Darkness was looming, and Shiros ears perked up when he heard a faint rustle of the leaves. In the forest of Silveil, where the night went on forever, everything was sparkling; the stars above and the fauna and flora below. Every leaf, petal, and critter seemed to glow and everything was tinted in hues of blue, pink, and purple.
Galaxies stretched across the night sky and Shiro loved watching them and looking for shooting stars. But today, he had a different goal. The mushrooms Shiro sought were a bit special - each cap pulsed faintly, like a heartbeat, and emitted a soft light that shimmered when touched. His paws kept pushing the mushroom caps just a little bit, and glitter fell upon his paw and for a few steps, his paw prints would glow in the grass. He hopped around, laughing and enjoying the bioluminescent wonders of Silveil.
Eventually he got a bit bored and prowled through the underbrush, his fluffy tail high up in excitement. His paws made no sound on the mossy ground, but his playful giggles gave him away to anyone watching his endeavors.
“Oh, you’re perfect!” he chirped, gently plucking a radiant blue mushroom and placing it in his woven basket. It reminded him of the ones Gloom showed him last month. He was glad they were still in season, as they are very tasty.
“Yoru’s going to love you!” he said to himself and gave the mushroom to his Pomu, who has popped out of his shadow. “Here, can you store this one for me please as well? Put it with the others! We almost have enough for lunch tomorrow!”
His Pomu blinked at him happily and chirped, before reaching for the mushroom and stuffing it into a big bag, which it then dragged back into the shadow space.
Shiros ears twitched as he scanned the clearing of the forest for more treasures after his Pomu disappeared again. That’s when he spotted it - a strange glimmer among the mossy roots of a great glowing tree. Intrigued, he padded closer, the dense flora brushing against his white fur, which reflected all the glowing lights around him.
There, cradled in a nest of silvery threads, was an egg. It shimmered faintly, its surface a pearlescent swirl of whites, greens and golds.
It was beautiful and the little kittom was instantly enticed.
“Whoa…” Shiro whispered, brows raised and eyes wide with wonder.
“What are you?”
His eyes darted around the clearing, half expecting some mysterious creature to swoop down and claim the egg. But nothing stirred except the quiet hum of fireflies. Carefully, he reached out and nudged the egg. It was slightly warm to the touch.
“This… is coming home with me,” he declared with a mischievous grin, his tiny teeth peeking out. Scooping up the egg with surprising gentleness, he tucked it into his basket that he was carrying. His Pomu had been storing the extra mushrooms in the shadow storage and now he had to make room for the egg. He chirped for his Pomu to reappear and take all the mushrooms with it, since Shiro didn’t want to let them go to waste. He carefully moved the egg in the basket, arranging the rest of the mushrooms protectively around it while his Pomu collected the once that had to make room for the egg from the moss. It chirped quietly and looked at the egg as well, carefully placing its paws on it and wondering what it was.
“Yeah, I’m not sure either…”, Shiro muttered and cocked his head from side to side. What an odd find.
“Let’s go home and show it to Yoru. Maybe he heard something about this.”
The Pomu nodded and grabbed the rest of the glowing mushrooms, before jumping back into the shadow.

When Shiro burst into the home they stayed during their visit in Silveil, Yoru was curled up on their rug, nose deep in a book about glowing Silveil moths. Startled, he looked up, blinking slightly annoyed about the ruckus.
“Shiro, what did you ….-wait, what is that?” Yorus tail flicked nervously as he pointed a paw at the egg.
“This!” Shiro announced proudly, setting the basket down, “-is a super special, mysterious forest egg! I found it under a tree!”
Yorus ears flattened, and he tilted his head skeptically.
“And you just… took it? What if it hatches into something scary?”
“Pfft, scary? Look at it, Yoru! It’s sparkly! Sparkly things are never scary.” Shiro puffed out his chest. “Besides, if it hatches into something big and strong, it can protect us!”
Yoru made a face and wasn’t fully convinced. But later today Kaladin would return, and the adult could inspect the egg further. Until then, he just had to hope nothing would happen.
The black and white kittom got closer, his blue eyes narrowing as he looked at the egg, still a bit sceptical. “Hmm… it is pretty,” he admitted reluctantly. “But it’s also dirty. We should clean it. You don’t want the mystery creature to hatch grumpy because it was in a filthy egg, do you?”
Shiro snorted. “Fine, mom.”
[...]
The two kittoms set to work with a bowl of warm water and a soft cloth, taking turns scrubbing the egg until it gleamed like moonlight. They argued over whose turn it was to wipe the trickiest spots, their playful chatter filling the cozy bathroom.
“You missed a spot, Shiro!”
“No, I didn’t! That’s just the design!”
“Are you sure it’s not dirt? Let me see.”
“Yoru, stop hogging the egg!”
“I’m not!”
[...]
When the egg was finally spotless, the kittoms bundled it carefully in a soft blanket and placed it by the fireplace, where the warmth would keep it cozy. Shiro flopped onto a cushion, his tail curling around him, while Yoru settled beside him, tucking his paws under his chest.
“Do you think it’ll hatch soon?” Shiro murmured, his voice laced with excitement.
“Maybe,” Yoru replied, his tone more cautious. “Or maybe it’ll take a while. Either way, we should stay close to keep it safe and see what Kaladin will say about this.”
Shiro grinned, nudging Yoru cheerfully. “You’re worried about the egg too, huh? Admit it - you’re curious!”
Yoru huffed, his ears twitching, while his tail flicked from side to side. “I might be. But only because you dragged it home.”
With a yawn, Shiro rested his head against Yoru’s side, and Yoru didn’t protest. The two kittoms curled up together, their tiny chests rising and falling with each sleepy breath. Nearby, the egg shimmered faintly in the light of the fireplace.
