Submission (#750) Approved

On his journey home Yue found his way going across the marshes of Enmir but something seemed different this time around. His surrounding was much darker than usual. The regions swap and marshes was known to be dark but they were usually surrounded by lanterns left by other travelers and lots of fireflies. But these days even the lanterns and fireflies didn’t even look lit. Yue usually travelled more during the day but with darkness that had enveloped Eyre no one seemed quite sure whether it was day or night.  He ran most of the way trying not to slow down too much as he knew that sometimes bad things happened to lone kittoms or Elnins when they travelled alone in such somber places. As he ran he suddenly ran out of breath for having spent so much energy without slowing down. His body became very tired and he felt like he couldn’t keep on going. He then halted, taking out a water bottle he had in his bag that was hanging around his waist carrying various objects for travelling within it. He sat on a branch that was hanging on the marsh and took one big sip of water feeling finally hydrated. He decided then that he needed to rest a bit more, he then took out a lantern and found some flint to light it. Even then he still felt like he was completely engulfed in darkness. But Yue was not one to be so afraid of darkness so he embraced it for the time being. He examined his surroundings and started seeing little sparks of light which he then realized they were fireflies. He smiled to himself and took out a small jar from his bag and tried to catch a few fireflies to bring them back home. Yue always loved the little firebugs and he was always mesmerized by them. That’s why he often chose to travel through Enmir as it was the home of most fireflies in the Eyre. He whispered to himself “stay safe little ones”. He smelled the wet swampy air and smiled some more closing his eyes and resting some more. He felt like he was starting to gain back some of his energy. He opened his eyes and reached into his bag once more and took a piece of bread he had wrapped in linen to keep it fresh. He took a good sniff and remembered it had been freshly baked that morning and still smelled so fresh. He bit into it and chewed it with such contentment. He would tell his little sister Wynter when he made it home how fresh that bread is from the bakery near their home. But something kept Yue from eating the rest of his bread. He saw flecks of light shoot through the sky in different colours varying from pink, blue, purple, yellow and green. He blinked a few times wondering if he was seeing things as he thought to himself that maybe he had indeed exhausted to much of his energy. He then began to rub his eyes wondering if maybe he had something in his eyes. But he looked up at sky again and saw more motes of light descend from the sky. He had never seen such a thing before, but he had heard Elnins speaking about it and thought maybe people were trying to scare kittoms from adventuring during these dark days that no one could explain. His eyes glowed seeing the light show from the sky and he grinned knowing he had something else to talk to his little sister about. At this point he figured he should probably get going because he had a bit left of his journey before he would make it home. Just before he was about to pick up his bag a purple mote of light fell right in front of him and all he could do was stare at it. His eyes were wide open and the sight was magical it almost seemed like stardust falling from the sky. He looked at the tree trunk that he had been resting on and almost slipped on the moss that was hanging from it, trying to get a closer look at the motes of purple light that was now resting on the tree. He tried to smell it but it didn’t really give off any sort of scent. He was absolutely smitten by it and decided to pull out a small vial he had in his bag not even thinking about whether it could be dangerous or not. He managed to scoop a small amount of it into his vial without touching it and thought to himself that his sister would be so excited to see it. Yue secured it into a small leather pouch and decided to continue his road home where he knew he had so much to share with his sister the only thing he felt sad for is he wished she was present with him. That way they could’ve had the memory to share together when they were older. But he hoped this little vial of purple shimmer would be enough for a memory with Wynter.
