ah, the familiar days of idle time (flashback)

The morning started off with dawn peaking through the leaves. The sunlight seemingly casting ablaze the already fiery foliage. Lunae had spent enough of his life to know that even though the weather outside LOOKED lovely and warm, Bellmoril mornings were anything but that. For that reason, Lunae made extra care to gather a soft scarf, stealing a moment of respite to breathe in the lingering scent of sunlight and sand that the familiar article never failed to carry. Acutely aware of the ticking of the clock, an ever constant reminder of time slipping away, Lunae quickly fastens the scarf and with a few deep breaths he's bounding outside of his home and into the familiar town. The days have passed like a blur and yet the more that has changed for Lunae, the small town on the outskirts of Il'durahn has stayed as familiar as ever. He greets the other early risers, a practiced and perfected smile plastered upon his face. A curt nod for those on four and a friendly wave for those passing by on two--every so often stalling and making idle chit-chat for the more curious folk that have missed his presence.

No, he hasn't been sick, but glad that his health was on their mind. Yes, he has finally managed to coax his Pomu from his shadow and no they still haven't returned back to normal but thank you for asking. No, Lunae has to clear his throat a bit, stumbling over the words, he's not interested in being anything more with that 'bright little kittom' he's been hanging around lately. He's quick to scurry off after that interaction, increasingly thankful for the scarf around his neck and blaming the chilly air for the flush on his cheeks. He hurries along the road until he's skidding to a stop in front of a familiar bakery, the scent of freshly made bread clinging to the air. Lunae enters, the small chime of a bell signaling his arrival, and he can't help the genuine grin that breaks across his face. The small bakery oozes warmth courtesy of the many ovens currently being utilized to prepare delicacies for the upcoming day and a familiar face peaks around from the entryway to the ovens and a lazy greeting is tossed Lunae's way.

"Ah, mornin' Uncle!" He's not related to the older Elnin in any fashion but he's long since stopped calling him anything formal after being berated for nearly an hour about how stuffy mister and sir made the adult feel. The baker nods at the kittom and he glances at a free table; an unspoken invitation for the younger one to take a seat. Lunae doesn't hesitate and bounds over to the table, sliding into the chair and using his free time to delicately remove and tuck the article away safely. The warmth of the bakery, sunlight filtering in from the window, and the whisper of the wind brushing through the sunset-painted leaves lulls the kittom into a moment of peace. His steady breathing and soft demeanor is broken by the sound of a plate sliding across the table and his dreary eyes focus upon hearing the gruff voice of the Baker.

"Yer not getting 'nough sleep now aren't ya? Ya neva' gonna get grown if yer not sleepin' right." One of Lunae's ears twitches in annoyance and his tail begins to puff up involuntarily. The adult grins, sharp canines revealing themselves with the upturn of his lip. "Now now ain't no reason ta be gettin' so riled up ya 'ear? Jus' lookin' out for yer ya. 'Ere fresh outta' oven." The adult Elnin slides over a tray of freshly baked pastries, cooked to perfection and wafting a delicious scent. Despite the Elnin's gruff appearance, Helios found early on in his life a talent for baking. Opening his shop at first was quite a task, with the rough birthmark stretching across his face and his dark anima, most townsfolk were a bit hesistant to visit a new shop already, and the "face" of the business certainly didn't help his appeal. But by chance, Helios stumbled across another kittom who didn't seem to fit in quite the same. Over time, a strange, yet familiar bond had begun to grow between the two Elnin. Now, Lunae is just as familiar with Helios's shop as the adult himself.

Lunae turns his gaze from the satisfied adult and his eyes widen at the treat placed in front of him: freshly baked chocolate puffs! He's too tired to worry about wiping the drool that he knows is starting to form and he pays no mind to the throaty laugh Helios produces when Lunae's hands greedily snatch up the warm treat. The adult situates himself on the opposite of the kittom, puffs of flour rising off his apron, and watches in idle mirth. The silence between them is comfortable and familiar; Helios was really the only one Lunae could confidently say that knew him. Sure, Lunae was known by others, evidenced by his morning ritual of greetings and grins. Yet those were all superficial. Smiles that never really reached his eyes and conversations that felt far too forced. His imperfect self had managed to perfect the art of being perfect and he went through his days content to ignore the strange emptiness that begun to dig within his chest. But it wasn't until he met the man who baked bread that Lunae allowed somebody to actually scratch the surface of his being and soon the ache was a little less _there_ and a little less fierce.

Lunae has never asked why he asked for his help, always a little held back by the fear of knowing, but he's certainly grateful that he's around.
