Enmir is known for having some of the most unique and diverse plant life in Eyre. This is thanks to its borders with the ocean thus allowing sediment to filter the brine into freshwater when traveling deeper into the swamps. One of the plants that is helpful for this filtration system is known as the Scianna tree. Sciannas are known for their wooden protrusions that grow up from the roots of the tree and help to create a complex system of filtration useful for helping to remove the saline from the water that has flooded inland. These protrusions are also useful in helping the tree to absorb the oxygen from the water as it moves up the xylem and into the main body of the tree. Scianna trees are well adapted to life in Enmir’s swampy region, and their thick roots are able to grow well in the saturated soil. The woven root system also allows for the tree to survive flooding that may happen due to changes in tide systems, and while the bark of the tree itself is resistant to rot (something very important within Enmir) fallen Scianna trees are a huge ecological boon for small local flora and fauna that rush to monopolize the new real estate. Small birds tend to nest highly within Scianna trees because they are unlikely to fall during poor weather, and fallen Scianna trees are a favorite for small terrestrial creatures because of their resistant nature. Because the Scianna tree is resistant to rot, the actual wood is a very valuable resource for building within Enmir, and this makes it a popular resource for merchants to sell, some are even able to turn the bark into rope through a complex method known only to certain merchant groups. Some arbor scientists in Bellmoril enjoy studying the Scianna tree to learn more about the unique adaptations that make it well-equipped for life within Enmir, but surprisingly enough, is not found elsewhere in Eyre.
