Luzia was perched up on a windowsill and looked out the window. She was still in Enmir, in the middle of the swamp. She could see the spongy moss blankets forming on every surface outside, giving Enmir beautiful vibrant green hues. Thick and twisted tree roots stretched across the murky waters and ferns as big as the kittom grew alongside the trees. Everything was densely overgrown and illuminated by fireflies and various glowing plants. Dragonflies darted through the air above the swamps, their iridescent wings catching the sunlight just right and made the air seem to glitter. Even inside Luzia could hear the croaking of the frogs that were sitting on top of lily pads and rocks. Enmir seemed more wild and untamed than the other regions of Eyre - and today she planned to take a small portion of the region and build it indoors.
“Luzia! Come down from there, honey, it’s time we start!”
Her ears perked up when her teacher called her, and she turned around, scampering over to the crafts table where the other kittoms were already busy.
Her teacher had bought several miniature aquariums and a big bag of rich soil. Inspired by the lush greenery of the swamp they had decided to build little vivariums. Since they weren’t able to leave the city at the moment due to miasma season, her teacher thought it would be fun for each kittom to have their own little piece of Enmir for their home. Luzia was eager and loved the idea, so with her tiny paws and her unwavering determination, she set to work, carefully spreading the soil at the bottom of the aquarium.
Luzia envisioned a small sized swampy paradise, complete with moss-covered logs and miniature trees, just like outside the window. She looked through the material that was sprawled across the table and carefully decided on each piece she wanted to add.
Her teacher couldn't help but smile as she observed the little kittoms enthusiasm.
To enhance the vivarium, Luzia decided to add some decorative pebbles, creating a colorful pathway through the future miniature swamp. She was like a little gardener, arranging things as she saw fit. A few times she had to start over and eventually asked for some help, but she made great progress and so did her friends around her.
Luzia successfully convinced her teacher to introduce a small water feature into the little swamp as well, further adding charm to the vivarium. The addition of tiny, delicate ferns also elevated the scene and added to the overall overgrown appearance. With a gentle dip of her paw, Luzia created ripples in the clear water, imitating the natural movements of a real swamp and she giggled in excitement.
“Here, I think this might be a fun addition!” A kittom next to Luzia gave her some glowing moss and Luzias eyes sparkled. “Yes, oh wow, thank you!” Since they couldn’t really add any animals to the open vivariums, glowing moss was perfect to add a little special spice to it.
Her vivarium evolved over time, and the little swamp became its own dynamic ecosystem. The kittom started to add in little tiny toy frogs and dragonflies, as substitutes for the real deal. These new residents really added a lot more to the vivarium and Luzia was very pleased with herself. She showed her vivarium to the others and they nodded in agreement, while Luzia marveled over the ones her friend had built as well.
As a final touch, her teacher sprayed the vivariums with a soft mist, to keep everything moist. The delicate droplets settled on the moss-covered tree bark and stones and mimicked the early morning dew of a real swamp. As the seasons changed outside, Luzias little indoor swamp became a constant source of joy and inspiration and they all put them together on the windowsills and shelves of the school room, before it was time to take them home. The kittoms got up and explained very eagerly their plans, thoughts and ideas behind everything and pointed out the plants they had used in the schoolbooks. It was a very successful afternoon for everyone.
