Clumsy but lucky.

That summed up San Ling well. How else would he be able to work a bunch of odd jobs that adults wouldn’t even touch and still succeed despite being woefully unqualified? Maybe it was that boundless optimism and “head empty, no thoughts” vibe he gave off. 

Well, let’s rewind a bit. 

There was a concert in town that Prescott already got a ticket for, and he wanted to go too. He begged his big brother for extra money for tickets, but San Liu just smiled and rejected his request. Yes, it was one of those smiles. 

Now, he was paw deep in cow plops as he tried herding all the bovine back into the barn so they could get milked. The owner said they’d pay half of the concert ticket’s cost. But, was it really worth it when he was literally covered in cow poop from face planting a few times? 

Then again, he didn’t seem to notice how dirty he looked nor how horrendous he smelled. His butt kept wiggling happily. Hopefully he would remember to bathe before going home. Otherwise, big brother would need to toss him into the outdoor tub. 

Before herding the cows, he’d already helped chop wood for a baker’s oven, knit a sweater for an old lady, and listen to an aspiring author’s poetry. None of them paid as much as this job though. 

When he did finish it, he ran up to Prescott, still covered in poop, holding a ticket in his mouth. Unfortunately, the fellow Elnin shrieked in horror and ran away, insulting San Ling with words the kittom did not fully understand. 

But, yelling meant fun, right?

Of course Prescott was only playing tag!

San Ling bounded after him happily, laughing the whole way, “Big brother, I’m gonna catch you!”
