Phoenix tailed lotus is a flower that blossoms rarely. The plant gives off a fiery light and luminous pollen, after a few hours the flower will wilt and the heavy seed will sink back into the muck at the bottom of the lake. Each seed usually blooms 7 times, once every year or so.

Each plant has a varied number of "tails" which are fibrous stalks that act like oars to bring the flower close to the land to spread its pollen before it drifts back to deeper waters to expend its bulb. Though the pollen can drift great distances, the chances of finding a receptive plant to pollinate is slim. Sightings of this flower become fewer each year and they are likely going to become extinct due to their overly complicated reproductive system.
