In the heart of the Elenion Forest, a verdant expanse covered in a flurry of sakura petals and known to be the dwelling of magical creatures, lived Wish—a small, nimble elnin with an inquisitive and playful spirit. She was a curious soul by nature and was often seen as a bit of an oddity compared to the rest of her peers. It wasn’t just for her delicate fairy-like coat patterns and soft purple fur, but for her latest fascination has been with a rather peculiar subject: the alchemy of breath.
Elnins had the capability to possess enchanted breath, a gift that could range from breathing fire to exhaling puffs of wind. Yet, Wish didn't just want any kind of known breath. She aspired for something unique, something that would make even the eldest elnins in the tribe nod in acknowledgment at her discovery.
"Ah, it must be something extraordinary!" Wish mused aloud, her voice tinged with whimsical excitement as she pranced around her small but cozy den filled with scrolls, quills, and bottles of ink. Her little horns were practically vibrating with enthusiasm at the thought of discovering something new.
"Let's see now, what do the tomes say?" Wish skidded to a stop in front of a neatly organized stack of ancient books and parchment. With a quick swish of her tail, she plucked out a dusty tome with the title written on the spine: "Breaths and More: An Encyclopedia of Elnin Physiology In Relation To Breaths First Edition."
Wish flipped open the hefty volume and skimmed through the contents. "Ah! Here it is—Chapter 7: The Aether of Breath." She flicked her tail excitedly and began jotting down notes on a parchment, her eyes sparkling with wonder and fascination at what’s to come.
After an hour or so of deeply engrossing reading and speculations, Wish had covered an entire scroll with her scribbles and thoughts. There were sketches of elnins breathing out clouds of frost, diagrams of enchanted air currents in relation to temperatures (there was no relation), and even a doodle of a hot spring, which she theorized could potentially aid in acquiring a steamy, mist-like breath that could relax the soul.
Her eyes flickered to a jar on her wooden shelf, a container that she had whimsically termed her "Air Jar." Wish pondered about the possibilities of trapping air from different areas and environments to analyze their magical properties. To compare the differences between them all. "Would the breath of a new dawn from Port Pthalo in Ealei yield a soft, tranquil air?" she wondered. Another scribble appeared on her parchment—a jar capturing the dewy air present at the first light of dawn.
Just then, a knock on her door interrupted her trail of thoughts. "Who could it be?" she muttered, a bit annoyed at the disruption but also curious of the unannounced visitor.
She opened the door to find Faren, another close elnin friend of hers. She had a fiery pattern over her orange fur and was often the life of any gathering due to her adventures.
"Hey, Wish! What are you up to? Plotting another prank?"
Wish chuckled. "Not today, Faren. I'm on to something big, something revolutionary!"
"Intriguing," Faren said as she entered the humble abode and observed the clutter of books and scrolls. "You're always up to something interesting. What's all this about?"
Wish unfurled the scroll she had been writing on and showed it to Faren. "I'm studying the theory of breaths. I want to figure out how to acquire a unique type of breath. Imagine, a breath no elnin has ever had!"
Faren’s eyes widened as she examined the notes and doodles. "Wow, this is some heavy elnin-physiology you're diving into! Have you thought about the magical elements involved? Earth, water, fire, air... Maybe something that incorporates more than one?"
Wish's eyes gleamed. "A multi-elemental breath? That's an idea worth exploring." She immediately jotted down the idea next to her doodle of a tornado, which she had earlier hypothesized might give her a whirling wind breath.
"I also have this," she said, pointing to the empty "Air Jar" on her shelf. "I'm thinking of collecting air samples from different places—like the top of one of the many mountains in Kyendi or the Midnight Caverns of Silveil—to see if they might have magical properties that could influence one’s breath."
Faren grinned. "That's so like you, Wish. Always thinking outside the box—or jar in this case."
As the evening wore on, the two friends delved deeper into theories, from the influence of celestial bodies to the magical conductivity of rare minerals. The possibilities seemed endless, but Wish knew that each scribble, each notation, was a stepping stone to something magnificent.
Finally, as Faren prepared to leave due to prior obligations, Wish felt a tinge of satisfaction looking at her notes. "I'm onto something Faren, I can feel it! Thank you for helping me brainstorm."
"Anytime, Wish," Faren said, walking out but not before playfully teasing, "Just remember, when you do get that unique breath, use it wisely!"
"Oh, I will," Wish assured, her eyes twinkling mischievously. "I certainly will."
Closing the door, Wish returned to her den, her heart swelling with hope and ambition. She looked at her notes and then at the empty "Air Jar."
"Soon," she whispered to herself, her eyes fixed on the future, a landscape of boundless opportunities and breaths yet to be discovered.
