Mary was wandering along the lonely beach on the outskirts of Silveil. He enjoyed the eternal night lands. It felt calming and he loved the darkness, unlike Greywind who preferred icy Strynhalde or Nico, who loved their home in Ahza. Neither of them understood Marys love for Silveil and its mysterious, glowing plant life, but the Elnin was fine with that. Some solitude was all he needed right now, while he was on the hunt for a special plant that was home in this region.
He stopped for a moment and asked his pomu to grab the notes he collected earlier on the plant. After all, the last thing he wanted was to accidentally bring home the wrong specimen. Cheerful chirps echoed from his shadow, as his pomu emerged and handed him the papers. “Thanks~”, he nodded softly and sat down somewhere near some rocks, so the waves wouldn’t destroy the paper. He started reading in the soft glow of the moonlight, as the stars twinkled above his head in the twilight, that was only noticeable at the edge of Silveil.
“The Nocturnastra is a marvelous plant that thrives in a land where perpetual nighttime reigns. It possesses an ethereal and mysterious beauty, capturing the essence of the night sky in its appearance.
The leaves of the Nocturnastra are large and deep indigo, resembling the midnight sky. These leaves are speckled with tiny, luminescent spots that shimmer like stars when touched or exposed to moonlight. Said leaves emerge from a slender stem that is covered in fine, hair-like structures that glisten with a soft, silvery glow. These twinkling stems capture ambient star- and moonlight and channel it to nourish the plant, allowing it to thrive in perpetual darkness without the need for photosynthesis. A special survival mechanism was discovered during times when the stars were barely visible - the Nocturnastra has evolved to emit its own faint light to supplement its energy needs for a short period of time.
Especially breathtaking are the celestial blossoms of the plant. The Nocturnastra produces unique, bioluminescent flowers that resemble miniature constellations. These flowers come in various colors, such as deep blue, violet, and silver, each with intricate patterns resembling different star formations. The flowers emit a gentle, pulsating glow, attracting nocturnal pollinators like moths and fireflies.
When threatened, this extraordinary plant can emit a dazzling burst of light from its leaves and flowers, temporarily blinding predators and startling them. This defense mechanism provides the plant with protection against herbivores.”
Mary had noticed the absence of any usage for the plant or if it was toxic or not. That made him feel a little uneasy. He hadn’t heard much about the plant and the locals were all hush hush about it. So he made a mental note to be very careful when he would harvest this plant, just to make sure nothing would go wrong. Maybe he should pick up special tools in Silveil City… to be on the safe side.
