In the fields of Bellmoril, spread haphazardly and often growing in happy company of a dozen other species of bloom, one can find Sundrop Blossoms, a recent discovery to the delight of the elnins and kittoms of the region.  These plants boast vibrant orange flowers, where many of its common names surely originate, as many will identify them by this notable feature.  Sundrop Blossoms stand proudly at an average height of two to three feet, and showcase a symphony of sunny hues in its delightful orange flowers.  Each blossom seems to carry a radiant glow, that catches the eye with its delicate petals.  The flowers, which come in or about the size of a kittom’s pads, bloom in clusters, and form a dazzling spectacle of color that brightens any landscape.

The petals of the Sundrop Blossom are velvety smooth, inviting touch as well as admiration.  Their texture is reminiscent of the softest velvet, with the fine almost invisible hairs of the flowers inviting any insect to rest upon them.  When an elnin lowers their head upon the flowers, and in fair sunlight, the petals emit a subtle citrusy fragrance, which can complement any garden.

The plant’s slender stems emerge from a sturdy base, adorned with lush glossy leaves.  These leaves resemble elongated ovals and possess a deep green hue that serves as a stunning contrast against the fiery orange flowers.  Unfortunately, the beautiful flowers only come once a year in the late spring or early summer season, as they are annual flowers.  While the rest of the plant itself can be enjoyed any time in spring and summer, it can be hard to identify without its namesake blossoms.

Multiple subspecies of Sun Blossoms exist, varying in color from yellow-orange to more fiery and vibrant oranges.  The deeper the orange, the more the bloom tends to be preferred by enthusiasts, as such, the more yellow varieties tend to be found only in the wilds of Bellmoril, where the blossoms ensure the fall colors of the land are everlasting.  Maybe in the future, as more is known about the blossoms, its other varieties will become more well-known.
