Sunniva had traveled a bit in her time as a kittom, but the miasma season meant she would have to stay in a place for a while. Silveil city has started growing on her ever since she had met Yako. The librarian elnin had taken her in, given her shelter and a place to work. At first Sunni hadn’t been quite sure if she was enjoying life as a librarian assistant, but soon enough it had grown on her. The year before she was in a tavern in Strynhalde where she had spent most of her kittom years. The work was quite different, she was used to cleaning up tables and setting them. Sunniva would also clean rooms after a guest left and make it look nice for the next one. She would often sweep and clean the floor of the tavern once all the customers had left at night. There was also no snow to play with outside which is what her heart missed the most. Now most of her tasks included putting away books and dusting them. It had taken her some time but she had learned the Miyako system of putting away books. At first she hadn’t understood it but once she got the hang of it, it made perfect sense.

The two were living in perfect harmony and Yako had adopted Sunniva as if she was her own. She would take the time to read her a story every night . Sunni had never had a motherlike figure before and it made her at peace and like she had finally found a place to call home. Miya was a calm and well tempered elnin and she never yelled at Sunniva even when she did something wrong. It made the little one know she had finally found “Home”. She no longer needed to wander around Eyre to find a place she belonged, it was right here.

Although things weren’t always perfect as it seemed the library was a haunted place. Miyako had not mentioned it to the little kittom not to frighten her when she had decided to stay and call this place home. Stacks of books would sometimes find their way all scattered over the ground. Food would disappear often especially if one would leave it laying around for just a short amount of time. At times, they would also find books open with pages shredded. Sunniva was absolutely terrified of being left alone. She was glad that she had her pomu lantern with her at all times. The beautiful bright pink crystal always shone upon her. ALthough she wondered if Snowdrop was around if she could find the thing that was causing carnage. Sunni gripped on tightly to the beautiful ribbon she had fashioned to her pomu lantern using its glow the light her way, when she thought she heard a noise or saw a shadow. The soft pink glow from the crystal made her at peace and less afraid. If only Snowdrop could really be with her she would feel better. She just hoped that when she would spring back to life that she wouldn’t be upset at Sunni for how she decorated her lantern. She had really taken time and care to pick the beads and the ribbons. But her favorite part was the crystal charm she had gotten for her. It was a beautiful pink crystal flower that shone ever so brightly with the lantern. Maybe her pomu would protect her from whatever was haunting the place.

One night, when Sunniva was fast asleep after Yako had read her a story. A loud yowling noise had woken her from her deep sleep. She had gotten up and ran so fast to Miyako room where she had hidden under the blankets that her pomu lantern had to reappear next to her. There was no following her. She was shaking under the blankets and there was so calming her fright. Even the pomu lantern stood next to the blanket and tried to light her to feel safer. Somehow that night she couldn’t shake the fright and was convinced that this place was haunted.

The next day Miyako took Sunniva to the local shaman and asked for a way to banish evil spirits. The shaman had told them how to burn sage and then broom the place like the elseworlders did to get rid of spirits that were unwanted. It seemed like a strange thing to do but if it worked and if the elseworlders practiced this type of ritual, well the two nins were up for it. After all, it couldn't be worse than being stuck with it.

Once they got back home, they shut all the windows and doors and began to burn the sprig of sage all through the library and then they broomed the whole place and opened the door and threw the dust out. As Sunni was doing the final sweep she felt something brush her leg. Mortified, she stopped what she was doing and looked around to see if there was something there but to no avail she didn’t spot anything. She only saw the usual, some glowy mushrooms here and there adorning the outdoors. But nothing looked out of the ordinary, even the dark pitch blackness of Silveil with its starry sky seemed as the usual.  It was also hard to tell as it was always dark in Silveil no shred of light other than the moon and stars could be seen outdoors with some of it’s bioluminescent flora. The kittom simply hoped that whatever that was it was gone. But just to be precocious she took the lovely ribbon she had fashioned for her lantern and walked a bit around the area. The lantern was creating just enough light so she could see her surroundings. That’s when she spotted those two green eyes staring right at her from behind a nearby bush. Screaming she ran back into the library and shut the door. Whatever she saw was staying out as she locked the door, or so she thought. Maybe it was but her imagination, after all it could have been little glowy mushrooms in the bushes. I mean after all it was Silveil, the whole flora was always glowing mostly. She tried to convince herself that it was just bioluminescence  flora she spotted.

When they were visiting the shaman she had also purchased a lucky charm that she was told would help protect her if she put it under her pillow. She did not hesitate that night to put the charm under her pillow. Whatever those eyes belonged to she was hoping she would never have to see them again. She was starting to believe she was cursed ever since she had moved her. Maybe that was the cost she had to pay to have a nice home to live in? Who knew all she knew she wanted to stay safe in a good home.

The next few weeks had been peaceful and there hadn’t been any disturbances. Sunniva was glad that either both or one of these elseworlder traditions had done the trick and she could now sleep soundly.
