The Palu'au Islands are home to many unique and beautiful plant species, but perhaps one of the most unique is the rare ‘Coral Blossom’. This visually stunning plant is aptly named after its resemblance to the vibrant, colorful coral reefs that surround the islands.

The Coral Blossom grows in clusters along the rocky shores of the islands, clinging to the crevices and boulders with its long, spindly roots. At first glance, it looks like a cluster of tiny sea anemones, with its thin, branching stems reaching upwards to form a delicate, lacy canopy of fronds. Upon closer inspection, one can see that the fronds are actually made up of thousands of tiny, delicate flowers, each one only a few millimeters in diameter.

The flowers of the Coral Blossom come in a variety of hues, from deep, rich purples to bright, neon pinks and oranges. Each individual flower has a long, thin stamen that extends out from the center like a delicate thread, creating a lacy, almost wire-frame effect. When the flowers are in full bloom, they create a stunningly beautiful display, with the various colors blending in a riot of color and texture.

Perhaps due striking beauty, in contrast, the Coral Blossom is a rather fragile plant. It requires a very specific set of growing conditions in order to thrive, including plenty of sunlight and warm, salty sea breezes. It is also highly sensitive to changes in water temperature and salinity, and will quickly die off if the water around it becomes too cold or too salty.

This drama queen of a plant becomes increasingly rare as a result, found only in certain areas along the coastlines of the Palu'au Islands where it's picky needs are satisfied. Due to this fact, it is highly prized by botanists and collectors alike.

Despite its rarity, it is often found adorning the walls of some of the island's most luxurious resorts. A show of wealth and beauty to any visitors from outside the region. Its delicate beauty and rarity make it a true treasure of the region, and one that is sure to capture the hearts and imaginations of all who are lucky enough to see it in person.
