I imagined the rich volcanic soil and harsh environment would lead to nature trying its best to find a way! The living crystal flower uses the heat resistant outer shell of quartz to protect its delicate inner veins, while the roots are its most vulnerable they hide under a blanket of scraggly crystallized grass to help shield and disperse heat.

Very few have been found as they grow around highly acidic, superheated pools where magma flows. The fumes from these pools can be lethal without proper protection. If picked, the crystal flowers veins will dry up leaving an iridescent patina, very lovely but hollow - making the crystal itself somewhat fragile so care is needed to preserve the flower whole.
