The weather had been pretty stormy in Strynhalde lately, the winters were pretty harsh during the Miasma season and Sunniva could no longer enjoy the outdoors. She had been staying at an inn in Iorumund where she would help out during the day, clean up the rooms and set up new fresh sheets for visitors. But unfortunately with the ongoing weather and the Miasma no one was traveling. At night the city folk would come for a drink but that was most of the clientele they would see. Sometimes some would stay overnight from having too much to drink and that would give work during the day for Sunni. But otherwise sometimes she would clean up in the morning if beer mugs were left behind from the night before. But mostly the innkeeper tried to keep Sunni away from it as she always said “ no place for a small wee kittom like yourself ”.
Since she would be paying off her stay by working in the inn, she got to have one of the nice rooms with a hearth in it. Instead of sleeping in the bed she would curl up in a blanket with a pillow by the fire. Since the winter months were even gloomier the innkeeper had made her a plush doll of her pomu that she missed so dearly. Her lantern followed her around but to Sunniva it wasn’t quite the same. Having felt sad for the little kittom the innkeeper had made her the doll and it brightened up Sunni so much that instead of cleaning up the place she almost made more of a mess. The little kittom had too much energy to burn but with the ongoing snowstorms it wasn’t safe for her to go burn out her energy outside.
She looked out the window for a long period of time, clasping to her doll as Snowdrop lit up the window. She longed to go outside and play in the snow but the storms didn’t seem like they would be giving up anytime soon. As the daily customers became scarcer, no one could quench the little kittom desire for chaos, so she began rearranging the furniture around the inn, during the night. The innkeeper had wondered what all that raucous had been at night and to her horror the kittom had moved all the furniture in a way she didn’t even understand how anyone could sit at the tables and enjoy a hot meal or a dram of beer. Sunniva had created a tower over the tables with the chairs that surrounded them. She had even managed to set some chairs and one table on top of them and to that she wondered where the kittom even had the strength to do such a thing. The innkeeper facepalm looking over at the chaos and wondered what in the world of Eyre had possessed Sunniva.
Once Sunni had awoken she had been disciplined to never do what she did and to rearrange all the carnage back to the way it was before. Unimpressed, she took the whole day to redo the chairs and table as she thought this would be a great way to attract new customers. But what the young kittom didn’t know is that no one wanted to climb on a table to sit on a chair. Somehow that had tired her even more than when she had originally disorganized the whole dining room. She passed out somewhere under a table. The innkeeper took pity on her and picked up bringing her back to her room and finished the job. She figured that for now Sunni should be burnt out enough not to reattempt something like this for a few days at least.
The next day the innkeeper had an idea. She gave Sunniva the spare furniture they kept around in case a chair or a table would break, especially when the customer got rowdy. Helping the kittom bring the furniture to her room and giving her extra blankets, she and Sunni built a nice little fort in front of the fire where Sunniva could pretend it was her little safe haven. No one but her Snowdrop and the doll could go. That absolutely thrilled the small kittom that she brought a bunch of things with her to occupy herself, like books and small pieces of cloth so she could make clothing for the pomu doll. She felt safe and happy in her little fort and no longer had the winter blues. Everyday she would add and bring new things there. The innkeeper noticed things going missing here and there but as long as the kittom was out of her hair and no longer had urges to cause so much carnage it made her happy. Besides once the Miasma season would end she was sure the kittom would bring back all the cutlery she stole right?
Sunniva was her bright cheery self again, everyday once she finished her task she would run up the stairs and go hide in her fort where she never needed a light because Snowdrop would light her way and she would draw all sorts of things and craft puppets with the cutlery she would borrow from the kitchen. She was convinced that the innkeeper had no idea of the things she took. But little did she know she all accounted for it and would only demand it back once they would have a steady flow of customers. She had also crafted all sorts of outfits for her pomu doll. The question is when Snowdrop would no longer be dormant what would she think of the doll and the outfits ? Surely it would disappear in the void.
