Nono slowly woke up to the sound of rain softly hitting his window. He yawned and stretched his legs before turning over on to his other side and sleepily looking over to where the noise was coming from. It was still pretty dark outside. Or maybe that was just because of the rain? Anyway, he felt way too tired to stand up and face the day. The Starfall Faire was in full swing and while he very much enjoyed the festivities like any other Elnin and Kittom he was just a bit exhausted by constantly getting dragged around by his sister Kiki and looking at all the different stalls and stalking Nins in pretty outfits to get a closer look at the inticrate designs. So sure, he enjoyed the Starfall Faire as a whole but he was just looking forward to having one slow and lazy day where he could just stay at home and curl up in a blanket while listening to some music or maybe reading a book. And even if Kiki didn’t want to leave his side, they could still play some card or board games together or maybe finally tackle that big jigsaw puzzle. Maybe he got lucky and the rain would be a reason to stay inside today! But as his tired eyes slowly got accustomed to the dim light Nono saw something strange flash up. Huh? What was that light outside? It was just for a quick moment but it didn’t seem like lightning. He also couldn’t hear any thunder. And the rain wasn’t too hard, just a soft trickle. Maybe it was just a firefly? There were a lot of them in Enmir and even though he got used to seeing them around it was still a joy every time he watched them. It was just way too pretty to look away! But this was definitely different. Nono contemplated for a moment and went over his lazy rain day plans again before he decided to finally stand up and investigate. He almost tripped over the blanket when he tried to get out of bed and then finally made his way over to the window. Enmir was looking wet and misty, the grass was shiny with dew and the big trees had some slighlty drier spots underneath them where the rain hadn’t fully hit yet. The rain though. The rain was anything else but usual! Nono couldn’t quite believe his eyes but the rain drops seemed to shimmer and reflect light. They hit the ground and seemed to disappear like any other water falling from the sky. But while they were in the air the rain was so colorful like a rainbow! A field of little tiny rainbows all falling to the ground! Nonos ears perked up and he smiled. Light showers! He had heard of them but it had sounded like a fairytale! Nono couldn’t help himself, he stormed out of his room and out of the door. His aunt and sister seemed to be still asleep and he couldn’t wait to wake them up. He ran outside and onto the soft wet grass and moss that smelled divine and would forever be burned into his mind as one of his faovurite things that Enmir had to offer. It was like walking on a soft carpet that slightly tickled between your toes. He looked up and watched closely as all around him little beams of light came down and hit the ground. Some were falling on him and glowed in his fur before disappearing. Only his shadow seemed to just swallow them up whole. Strange.
Nono thought about catching the lights in a bottle. Would that work? It would be so cool to catch them like fireflies and just keep them in a jar. He had always felt bad for the fireflies and released them after an hour or two because the thought of them being trapped forever in the little container made him sad and brought back bad memories of having to run and hide and cower in a small cabinet. Nono shook those thoughts away and tried to barricade them back. Where was he? Right! Catching the light droplets! THat would be amazing but judging by the way they just disappeared into the ground it wouldn’t work. But he still did his best to study the moss and see if there were maybe any glowing remains. He couldn’t find any. Nono walked a few steps further until he hit the earthen path and followed the light hitting the ground here. It was the same, the light just disappeared. He thought maybe the grass and moss were so tall and wet that they just absorbed the light and he would have more luck on earth or maybe stone but it seems as if he was wrong. Well. A bit disappointing but he could shake that away. This was still absolutely amazing! Nono looked back to the house and thought about waking up Kiki and their aunt. He didn’t want them to miss this! Especially Kiki. She would never let him forget this. But just for a moment longer he wanted to experience this by himself. Nono leaned back and looked up, all the light surrounded him in quick flashes. It was exciting, got his blood pumping but it also was weirdly calming and made him feel nostalgic and hopeful. It seemed like a good omen to him. It felt like a promise. The little Kittom smiled and closed his eyes for a second and took a deep breath. He was just about to turn around and wake up Kiki when he already heard her loud voice from the house. Nono grinned.
