Kyendi is old, and there's a reason for that, and this land has seen empires wake and live and die. The people here now are… curious things. But for all its population, they stay on the edges of the region, in floating islands watching the endless war between Kyendi and Vahl d'Sari or by the shore in the shadow of the eldertree, refusing to come deeper into the hills, deeper into the fog where no one comes out.
It's fine, though. Because where the mortals don't dare to pass, the feyfolk live and the spiritfolk wander, and even they keep their distance from the Daeva that have made their homes in the mountains, cultivating the miasma and the rot they're so known for.
Kyendi is old and deep and hides so many secrets. It's a miracle the borders are open at all, for even the mortal inhabitants prefer to keep their secrets. But the jungle is dense, so dense, humid and foggy and the overgrowth hides everything. No one knows the ancient technology Kyendi's halfway buried under moss and lichen, the technology that could one day begin to work again. (Maybe one day, someone will dig it up, and find a better way to fight off the corruption of Dusk. Maybe one day, Kyendi will remember that it's there.)
There exists three hundred species of butterfly in Kyendi that don't exist anywhere else in Eyre. Deep in the woods where the feyfolk play, even distance is a little questionable, and the paths they weave from fairy ring to fairy ring are impossible to follow if they don't want you to. Deep in the shadow of the gently curved mountains is the Daeva, and they don't understand what Kyendi's buried any more than the feyfolk who take the ancient ruins as places to play and desecrate and decorate.
Kyendi is old, and it has seen empires wake and live and die. There's no telling how long the empire of elnin will last, but if they die, there is only one place they can be buried without extinction. Kyendi still has a gentle, slow hope that if they fall, they may return to aid the world one last time, like so many other forgotten civilizations.
