Sometimes, being somewhere where one looked... like they were a part of that place helped sooth the soul. Misfit had always felt like, well, a misfit. Unwanted. Which was dumb, he knew that much; life had shown him that there were many a creature that both desired his company and actually wanted him around. It sounded bizarre to him, for though he had never really endured any sort of abuse before meeting Aislinn and hers, it wasn't like he'd been around people that would spread their arms for him and welcome him in like they would a friend or a family member.
He'd adopted the name because of it; Misfit. He didn't quite fit in. And though that was before, he often found himself returning to the golden, autumnal forests of Bellmoril. He always felt like he fit in here, amongst the golds and the browns and the falling leaves. It was where he'd met his first real friend, and something about the region was comforting and warm to him, even if he was well aware it was in an almost metaphorical way. The lakes were large, the trees always bright with gold, and the towns had lost their intimidation factor. No longer did he cower and feel unsafe to go into more civilized places.
Misfit had to admit that a lot of the issues he used to have about towns and cities in general were... dumb, honestly. Mostly made up worries and scares in his mind of social queues and etiquette that did not really exist outside of his mind, which he'd been told could fool him. Often time he found himself pondering (or rather over pondering) a situation because he got stuck in details that didn't truly matter, of how this or this other elnin would perceive him. He'd started to look at the world from a completely different perspective while travelling aimlessly with Aislinn, and though he was sure his feelings for her could not quite mirror what she felt for him, he still wanted to make sure she felt appreciated.
He wanted to make it obvious that her presence and her continued friendship were very important to him with more than words, which was turning out to be harder than expected, because as of yet, he hadn't really even been able to bring forth said words in her presence. Oh, he was well aware the way both Victor and Fafnir would eye him from time to time, when his tongue would get stuck to the roof of his mouth and he'd be unable to get out a single notion, leaving him to either nod or shake his head dumbly to whatever it was she was saying at the time.
Embarrassing, honestly, if he was being truthful, but it was what it was.
With some of the stones and trinkets he'd gotten on the journeys, he'd managed to make enough currency that he figured he could perhaps buy something for her, in order to express through action what he could not through words. It was true he often managed to catch fish for her, and that getting something from the bottom of the lakes in the region wouldn't exactly be hard, but that wasn't what he wanted to find. He wanted to something sweet, something pretty even.
Like her.
It took him a while of running around the rural town where Fafnir lived to find something that appealed to him; a lovely looking little cupcake like cake, with some sprinkles and fruit decorating the top of whipped cream and frosted sugar. He put down some currency for it, smiled at the shop keeper, and with the bag secured, made his way back to Fafnir's place, passing by the large dragon kyunru with nary a hello before making his way upstairs the stone building, where he was sure his friend would be.
The tree just outside the building being fully golden, like the ones in the forest, seemed to have the inside of the house; through the windows, the sun shone through the golden leaves, illuminating the rooms he ran through without care. He'd been to the house and slept there plenty of times and knew the layout of the place well enough he could have walked it in his sleep.
Fafnir had done nothing more than roll his eyes slightly as the kittom streaked through his house, and hollered a warning to watch out out for the stairs, but otherwise said nothing to stop Misfit as he made his way through the house in a rush and crashed into his friend's room with absolutely no worry.
Said friend looked up from a bunch of scrolls she'd spread out around her and giggled as the lion fish nin skidded into the room with a bag hanging off of his mouth. She was, after all, used to her friend's antics, "I got you a thing!"
That was not new, and the tilt of her head as she abandoned her scrolls and walked over to him seemed to say as much. What was, however new, was the fact that the thing presented to her was something made by someone else; a treat. A cupcake, rather than a fish, or a pretty stone, or a pretty feather.
The surprised on Aislinn's face was obvious as she took the treat, grinned and split it in half before sitting herself down by her friend, "Thank you, I love it," she whispered to him as they both enjoyed it together.
