Upon an earlier request of them, the pale nebula kittom was strolling through the busy streets of Silveil City without a care. Their brother Caelum was a lot more cautious and weary but Helix? Oh, Helix was just gravy. They had their pack over their shoulders, and they walked with purpose through the lot streets. Miasma season was boring if you liked to leave town but Silveil City was just so exciting!

If you were lucky, you might spot a thief pick pocketing some unfortunate mark! Of course, most people didn’t like that. However, it was an intricacy of the city that the kittom appreciated.

Everyone knew the real seller though. Purple eyes looked up into the sky and they just seemed to widen with bewilderment and amazement. Although they had seen the sight many times before, seeing it always sparked joy in the heart of the kittom. They knew that they were home when they looked into the darkness and instead of being afraid or missing the light, they stepped into the darkness. They shone brightly, even more so, in the dark.

Like the stars in the sky, Helix glittered in a world of darkness. Speaking of glittering, the craft store had recently started selling this fine, sandlike starlight. It glittered and shone brightly, much like the sky. Helix didn’t know much about it, but it was all the rage!

And they knew exactly what to do with it.

Walking along the boardwalk, they looked across the way toward Starlake. It was a particularly clear night and the lake seemed absolutely still. At this angle, Helix couldn’t see the distinct eldertree’s frame but they could see many luminous jellyfish sparkling the surface. It was always like they wanted to compete with the stars but Helix knew that it was an impossible task.

There was a doornin holding the door open for Helix when they arrived back home.

“Thank you,” they said as they walked through.

Back home was quiet and Helix wondered if anyone was present. They didn’t expect to find their mother there as they would be performing at this time but they were surprised that Caelum wasn’t there.

Helix settled in on the balcony, and it turned out Caelum was home. The dark fitted kittom looked up excitedly to see his sibling arrive, and his coat unexpectedly started to sparkle more than ever with his joy. The stained glass markings were highlighted even more by this mutation.

It fueled Helix’s idea, and they smirked a little as they settled beside their brother.

“I got supplies for another letter,” they said.

“Can I write it this time?” Caelum asked.

“Oh, don’t think so. I was going to send it to my dad,” they said.

Caelum’s face looked disappointed, but Helix pulled out a second set of supplies.

“I got you one so you can write your dad, too!”

Caelum jumped up and snatched it excitedly, “You’re the best!”

Oh, Helix knew.

Helix watched Caelum’s eyes go down to the glittering sand with curiosity.

“What’s that?”

Helix smiled deviously.

“Oh, that’s just a gift for my dad. I think he’ll just love it. Maybe you can get something to send with yours!”

Before Helix could say anything more, Caelum ran off to leave Helix to write his letter.

Honestly? It was a bit short. Helix wrote about how grandma had told them all about dad’s childhood and then drew a big “xP” face that took up most of the paper. After that, Helix dumped the entire package of “glittering starlit sand” into the envelope and sealed it up.

Helix hoped dad would like it, or not. Helix was very proud, giggling to themselves as Caelum came back.

“What’s so funny?” Caelum asked.

“Oh, nothing. I just hope dad enjoys the surprise.”

“Me too!” Caelum said. “I got him a ribbon so he can braid my tail when I am there.”

Okay, so neither of these kids gave the best letters but they’d be unforgettable.
