The pale nebula, as they were lovingly called, the kittom Helix laid across the floor of the apartment, looking out across the open balcony onto the scene outside. The sky was dark as it always was with that glimmering galaxy ripping open the sky and allowing all of the stars to fall out of the rift to the city of Silveil below. It was a beautiful sight, one that Helix did not grow tired of.

It was a sight they missed while they were away and so they appreciated it more now. Most of the time they lived in Silveil with one of their parents but the other third of the time was spent in Faerindell with their grandmother Whimsy. She ran a daycare center there and often was tasked with looking after Solar Flare’s children as she had done with Solar Flare. It was quiet there, much unlike the bustling city here.

Helix’s eyes gazed out across the balcony and down onto the nightlife of the city. Helix was fortunate that their apartment had such a particularly beautiful view over the lake. They could see the eldertree’s shadow in the depths of Starlake, and the luminous glow of the star-like jellies that floated gracefully across the lake seemed to spark some excitement in the kittom’s eyes.

They definitely shared their mother’s love of the city as they stared indefinitely out into the expansive starlit night. It wasn’t until a voice called out to them that they turned around to face a familiar face, the face of another kittom. This kittom was darker furred with a bright stained glass motif on their coat. Their face had a familiar four pointed star naming on their forehead, exactly as their mother did.

Yes, you guessed it. This was their brother Caelum. They didn’t share a father, something their mother frequently “forgot” when they would drop their children off with their father… but they were as thick as the Thieves’ Guild.

“I miss grandma,” Caelum said dramatically as he dropped a pencil and notepad in front of Helix and then flopped beside them. “I want to write a letter.”

In other words, Helix heard, “Let’s write a letter together and send it to grandma.”

Looking back out to the skyline, Helix admired everything they had here. Grandma was so happy in Faerindell but maybe they could make her love Silveil, too! Helix went on to describe how the night sky embraced the city in a lavish darkness, and how despite the city having a “reputation”… it was actually quite safe! Grandma would totally be safe! Helix would defend her!

The stars were bright, too! You couldn’t forget how they tore across the sky, tearing a rip into the fabric of space and time to create this beautiful sight. Stars across the darkness twinkled and glittered in an attempt to brighten the world, or that’s how Helix described it.

He wrote about how mom definitely could be from the stars, glittering and sparkling across the night for all to see!

“Hey! Let me write some!” Caelum shrieked, grabbing the paper with a slight tearing sound.

“Hey! You’re gonna rip it!”

“You’re ripping it! Just let me have it now! I want to tell grandma about my new scarf!”

“She doesn’t need to know about your scarf!”

“Helix! Come on!”

“Fine, I’ll add something about your scarf!”

Caelum stopped pulling, and Helix looked down at the paper with mild embarrassment. They spread their paws over the surface of the paper in an attempt to flatten it.

He wrote: Caelum says thanks for the scarf.
