Ealei, full of trees and roots, and beautiful mangroves, is a beautiful region in Eyre. The tree roots from the mangroves extend for miles and miles, with very little dirt to be seen at all. The roots tangle amongst themselves, and grow quite boldly even in the salty ocean water. The edges of the mangrove trees are sometimes a bit tattered due to the waves of the sea that rush up against it. But layer after layer, the mangrove roots actually calm the waves, and dissipate the momentum and force of the water. In fact, after a few layers of mangrove trees and their growth, the water is almost completely still. It’s beautifully clear, and allows one to see the little crabs and lifeforms that live in the shallow waters. Little schools of fish flit about, their silvery scales glinting from the filtered sunlight. The mangrove leaves cover quite a bit of the sky as one explores deeper, so in some areas, it feels quite dense and cozy. When evening falls, one should take special care while exploring the beautiful islands. It is quite easy to twist an ankle here in Ealei due to all the roots, and then natural formation of the tree trunks. The Ieldi and Elnin who live in the area mostly build their homes on platforms in the trees above. If there are sea mosquitos or any other small pests that dwell near the mangrove roots and water, they rarely venture up into the leaves and tree branches above. The hanging lights that shine amongst the leaves at night make for a wondrous sight. From the sea, especially for any incoming ships, the twinkle of lights all over the island and even the surface of the water, creates a beautiful picture and evokes a welcoming warm feeling. In parts of Ealei, many have built platform systems and boats across the water, giving it a very suspended feeling. The trees are held up in the air by their roots, and the houses are held up by the trees. It’s a very inviting place to visit, and quite busy as well.
