He was sitting near some boxes in a rather quiet place despite the fact that the night city never rested. Surprisingly, he was waiting for a certain white kittom to appear there, even if he used to avoid her before. He looked up at the sky, only to find it illuminated by thousands of stars... he didn't really know if he missed the day and the night, since the latter always reigned in Silveil... even if in his previous home the changes in the day were not very well appreciated either. Maybe he would travel again soon…
Why was it taking so long? He was beginning to overthink and he was sure it was the right time…
Just at the moment when he was starting to get a bit nervous, he immediately saw her peeking down the other street and ran toward her through the boxes, only to jump in front and interrupt her passage.
- Hey there!
- Gyah!! -she said jumping in the site- A-ah, it's you..... Couldn't you say hello any other way!! I almost thought you were a mugger!
Levi smiled, mentally scoring himself a point, at least now Thea was more aware of where she lived and he partly liked that.
- I know, I know, but I have a surprise for you. I still can't believe the giant fish we tried to find last time exists... but I've gotten better fishing nets to go looking for it again.
- Oh? OH? Really?! -she calmed down after the scare, shaking her hair a bit- I didn't know you were still giving it a thought... But we could go look for it again then!
- Is it good for you now?
- Are you serious? Yes, of course I am! We can go right now, I actually like spending time with you - she smiled cheerfully.
- Okay, okay, okay, don't think so much of it... I'll go get the nets. -He sighed, wondering if it was really a good idea, but it was probably all right.
After a while of preparation, they were sailing aboard a boat on the lake of Silveil, trying to move it slowly so as not to scare the fish away. It was going to take a while, but they were in no hurry.
- How did you get the nets? -asked Thea, looking down at the bottom of the lake with interest.
- Better not ask and focus - he pointed out, without getting into the subject- I think we can cast them here... it must be one of the points where the water is deepest.
- All right! On three! -She held the net tightly and between the two of them they began to count in unison- one… two… three!!
They listened as the nets fell into the water... and as neither of them had made sure that no part of the net remained on the boat.
They looked at each other for a moment somewhat dumbfounded at their mistake, but in a second Levi jumped into the water even though Thea tried to stop him.
- Hey! Wait---!
Underwater he heard the muffled voice of the white kittom, but he ignored it, reaching for the net that was sinking steadily to the bottom. It was clear that it was catch it at that moment or give it up for lost forever.
And then, he noticed how something passed by him…
He glanced to the side and watched as particles of light illuminated in shades of blue and violet. Quickly the lights spread out and he could see that he was swimming among hermit crabs. The lights were coming from their legs and the light only accentuated their celestial bodies. As for the shells, he could clearly see how they looked almost like glass but painted with galaxies full of stars. They certainly had an easy time camouflaging themselves in the waters of the lake with that appearance. He saw how some of them got caught in the net, but he supposed he would have to bring them up to the boat as well, as he didn't have time to remove them.
He stretched out his paw to reach the net, grabbed them with momentum, and swam up briskly. Luckily it didn't take him too long to pull the net afloat.
- Next time you do something like that, watch out!
- Not that there was much time! - Levi replied, climbing into the boat with Thea's help and pulling the nets up.
- Oh, what a bunch of crabs! -she had already got a little over his fright at the sight of what had come up next to the nets. Then, she picked one up between her paws and lifted it up to look through it at the sky.
- What are you doing?
- Haven't you ever heard of it? They say that if you look through the glass shell at the night sky you can identify the stars in the sky, because some lines of the constellations are reflected in the shape of the crystal, some adventurers also use them as a compass.
- The crabs in the lake...?
- Yes! I have also heard that they secrete a substance like snails that is used to create lamps with fire that does not extinguish for a while underwater?
- Are you inventing again...?
- Of course not!! Let's ask an expert!
Apparently... they almost always ended up in some kind of disagreement to resolve. At least, even if they had forgotten about the giant fish in the lake, they had plenty of glass hermit crabs and constellations to investigate.
