- I'm serious! -said the little white kittom, showing a poorly drawn sketch of a giant fish. It could be seen that the fish was of an exorbitant size because below was a small black silhouette as a comparison between the sizes- In the city I heard that in the lake there is a fish this big!
Levi was lying down in front of the sketch of Thea, wagging his tail completely suspicious at the idea. He didn't believe it at all.
- If it were true we would have seen it sometime! Or at least someone would have caught it by now!
- But the explanation to that is very simple my dear friend! It's because of the bioluminescence of the lake! They say it knows how to hide its silhouette through the lights of the lake. – she was very confident about her argument.
- I keep telling you it doesn't ring true at all! Besides, how could it hide its shadow among lights! It's like saying that the lights of the stars in Silveil's night sky would be able to hide something instead of revealing it!
- Well, tell that to all the thieving gangs in town- she complained, puffing out her cheeks - Well, if you won't help me catch it, I'll go alone, and I'll take all the credit for it!
Just across from where they were lying arguing about the veracity of the rumors about the mythical giant fish, rested a pair of nets and a bucket full of glowing mushrooms. Thea had taken it upon herself to gather them earlier from the forest, thinking that perhaps the fish in Silveil Lake might want to try them. She wasn't sure if fish ate that sort of thing, but she wasn't an expert on fishing either. She stood up picking up the drawing and walked over to them.
- All right, all right, I can go with you, just so I don't have to tell you later if you find something that I wasn't there.
- So you still don't believe me, you'll see! - she said picking up the nets and bait.
They started walking towards the shore of the shining lake and looked for a small boat that was moored nearby. Soon they were calmly cruising the calm waters.
- Wouldn't it have been better to bring a rod?
- I don't think I'm strong enough to pull that fish out of the water with a rod...
- But with the nets we might not be able to catch him either...?
They both thought for a moment about what they had said, although they could do little about it. Then they saw something moving through the water and Thea pointed out, "Look, over there!”
They set a course in that direction and when they reached the place where they thought they had seen something, they stopped and looked carefully over the side of the boat.
- Shall we try our luck here?
- No doubt about it!
- Well... and at least if we manage to catch something we could also use it as bait...
- Let's fish for the big prize! - she said, throwing the nets into the water, getting down to work, however...
Why didn't anyone warn them that fishing was going to be an exercise in patience? They lifted their nets several times out of the water too soon to catch anything, and only towards the end did they manage to catch a few stray minnows.
- Don't worry, it's a start, it wasn't going to be as easy as arriving on the first day and having everything ready. First, we will have to learn the secrets of the lake and.... - Levi began to say, remembering how in his previous home you had to go very carefully when entering an unfamiliar area before being able to navigate it quickly once you got used to it. Thea wouldn't let him finish speaking, though.
- Or we can make up that we captured the BIG FISH and then we had to let it go! Because... because a fish this giant… it's better to be alive in the lake and not exposed somewhere!
- I'm afraid you're going to get in trouble... but you can always make them believe that you did go fishing and you did catch something, at least that - he told her by bringing the bucket to her, where you could see the fish swimming in some water - I could build them a nice aquarium and give it to you as a present if you don't tell more false rumors.
Thea seemed to think about it because she knew that Levi had a very good hand at creating this kind of things...
- Okay. But you'll have to at least let me come up with some stories for these fish.
- As long as it's not too far-fetched...
And so they put an end to their first day (or night, knowing that it was never dawn in that place) of fishing.
